“We love Hendra”
Reviewed October 12, 2010

Just returned from a 4 night stay. This was booked through the 'Sun Holidays'. Our caravan was a Fistral, and was great, central heating, flat screen tv, great double shower cubicle. The only criticism, is that the double bed was very hard and not at all comfortable, this put paid to any holiday lay ins!

The site is well kept and nice and quiet at night. We did not go in the club, not really our thing, but we love this site as it is a great base for touring Cornwall.

We stayed at the Park in September this year. After a more than difficult time arranging the booking (my partner getting a completely different offer than myself).
The Park is covers quite a large area with most of the caravans on a hill. Facilities are good with a shop , but the club is rather dated. The Caravan itself was average. There was a noticeable whiff of damp which was traced to part of the seating area. The gas fire initially didn't work until we contacted the reception and the pilot jet was cleaned.
There was little in the way of drying facilities, apart from a basic airer, as washing lines were not permitted on the site.
The range of crockery was basic, a wine glass or two would have helped, but cups and plates were not checked as some were found to be wet. We had an enjoyable holiday, but felt let down a little.

Booked via the Sun and wasn't sure about how this would work out...to my delight we were in a Watergate caravan, the location and van were just outstanding. The caravan was clean, tidy and lovely and warm - we didn't mind staying in during the evening because the accomodation was so lovely. The indoor pool was outstanding and our kids loved it - it's well worth the extra cost, very clean and tidy, and the staff were constantly cleaning the floor in the changing rooms etc.
Didn't try the entertainment due to having full days out in Newquay on the beaches - so children exhausted! However, we did eat in the Tavern and i thought it was reasonably priced and the food was great - cooked to order, so nice and hot. All the staff were pleasant, the grounds well kept. The arcades were just enough - you can spend lots of money in here with small children. Shop ok, a bit pricey but ok for essential supply's. Morrisons just round the corner and Newquay and other lovely spots near by.
We will definately be going back here - whether through the sun or not, and i will definately choose the Watergate caravan - it was just so lovely.

Been going to Hendra for the last 9 years and would not go anywhere else! The caravans are always clean and well maintained and any problems you do have are always sorted out quickly! The kids love henry and henrietta (although never manged to sit on the back of the train yet!!!!) My only slight crititism is that over 9 years the park had grown but the facilities don't seem to have expanded! But we are already booked for next year and can't wait to go back! It's a shame to read people have had bad experiences but can honestly say in 9 years we've never found cause to complain ( and I'm fussy) think the length of time we've been going speaks volumes

Stayed in their static caravans. First one we were assigned was dirty and the back bedroom smelt so we went back to front desk. We were told that we were upgraded already etc etc, and so we asked about further upgrades.... the women went through it all and then when we asked abut moving to these...... were told they were not available.???? Given another caravan to look at.

Entered the next caravan near the first one we looked at, all the similar symptoms of the first, smells etc but we though we'd try it. The wife and I would try and sleep in the front living area by making up the bed. Had to clean the caravan even though we were told it was ready and the cloths we used were picking up hair, thick dust and some of the floors presented black cloths after a single wipe. Disgusting

Anyway, dumped kit and left for Newquay. Got back set up the beds in the living area and kid in the back, the mattresses were no good with prings digging in so the kid slept with us. Wife then spots a bug??? Caught it and selotaped the thing, checked it out online and it's a bed bug..... and now I'm freaking we've brought some home....Hopefully not....

Supposed to stay 3 nights, left on the second and would have left on arrival if we would have got our money back. Was desperately looking for another place to stay after the first night and the bed bug.

Second night a fight goes on outside the caravan, one guy has a knife etc.

All in all I found it one of the worst places to stay and in the top three of wish I never set foot there. The gas system in the cupboard smelt strange and the pilot light was near all Orange, I would have left straight away if the caravan wasn't so drafty and cold. poorly maintained and I'm still to take it up with management there. Did not sleep much at all.

They state they have won awards but essentially, there are very few gems there and the condition of the lodgings remove any decent comments about the place.

We camped at Hendra for just one night (£19) at the end of August and had a really great time. There was plenty of pitches available, even on a busy bank holiday. We had plenty of room for the tent and the car. Facilities wise the campsite is well equipped with an indoor and outdoor pool, restaurants bars and clubs and loads for young children. It is a few miles out of Newquay and doesnt allow same sex parties so you can be sure of a more relaxing stay and sleep on a night! The club was very good just a little busy but we eventually got a seat, the entertainment wasnt bad either. Overall, i think it is one of the best campsites around Newquay and would definately stay again.
