“Great camping park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed here for a week on maple field in our motorhome & had a great holiday. Entertainment was good, excellant indoor & outdoor pool with terrace bar overlooking. Meals adequately priced. Showers & toilets kept clean. Bonus for motorhomers was the regular bus service from the site entrance. Good value for money & great holiday atmosphere.

Have recently had a three night stay at Hendra with my daughter and her sixteen month old daughter. I would start by saying that as both my daughter and her daughter were slightly under the weather and not able to use the pool - which I think is one of the big pluses of this site - this is not a total review of all on offer. We had what is known as a budget 1 van - lovely and clean and with everything you can need - the bedrooms - particularly the two twin rooms were very snug to say the least but no more than to be expected, the lounge was very roomy although if there had been the six of us the van accommodated it might have been a different story. The grounds are superbly kept with ongoing maintenance everywhere and the staff all pleasant and helpful. I would say I found the shop rather disapponting in its variety of goods - far too much of the tacky souveniers for my liking and although you can get most basics there have certainly seen better site shops. The only other negative I can mention is that our linen when given to us was quite badly stained - with in the case of the double sheets what looked like blood - not nice. It was instantly changed when I took it back to reception with apologies so no complaints there.

We booked a Mawgan caravan for a week in September to explore Cornwall and paid £179 which was great value we thought with a couples discount included. The holiday park is impossible to miss as you literally go right past it on the way into Newquay and there is a Morrisons supermarket less than 3 minutes drive away which is very handy when self catering.

Check in on Monday 17th September at 4pm was very busy, I was very surprised by how many people had the same idea as us but we were soon checked in and on our way to the Maple Field and our caravan.

The caravan itself was lovely, sure it was showing a few signs of age and wear and tear but it was spotlessly clean and a nice size. We were particularly impressed by the size of the main bedroom (to the detriment of the second bedroom admittedly) and the bathroom. The shower cubicle although small for two 6 footers was big enough and the shower and pressure was very pleasant.

The park itself is extremely well kept and very clean. The facilities are fine, the shop wasn't that expensive overall, the outside pool was clean (too cold though) and we didn't bother with the indoor pool as we were out exploring Cornwall for the week. I suppose the only disappointments was the entertainment we saw one night (Darren?) who seemed to shout rather than sing and also the poorly kept beer. The Carlsberg was particuarly nasty and not cheap at £3.60ish a pint. We were also disappointed with the Tavern pub which seemed to advertise itself as a good old traditional boozer and turned out to be an extension of a coffee shop which didn't have Sky TV, so no watching the Sunday games for us! All of the issues are relatively minor in context though.

Location is fantastic, just a 5-10 drive into Newquay itself. Some recommendations for restaurants would include Lewinnick Lodge (just stunning), Fort Inn and the Steam Bar at the Great Western Hotel both of which are St Austell Brewery pubs and are good for drinks and food. The Smugglers Den Inn which was recommended to us before we travelled was disappointing though with the food being great but the service amongst the worst we have encountered in this country.

Overall, Hendra is a lovely and very popular holiday park and we would certainly come and stay again next time we make the long journey down to Cornwall. Highly recommended.

came back today 1oct 2012, after a really good holiday at the hendra park. infact we stayed on a further 4 days from our original booking, all the staff were very helpfull and friendly. we stayed in one of the new perren caravans, which have double glazed windows and full central heating, and being a bit cold at night we really appreciated it. we would definately go back there and would thoroughly recommend hendra. diane and terry luff.

A disappointing camping pod holiday at Hendra. Pod itself was nice and cosy (heating, lights & electric socket). Would have been good though to have some hooks inside to hang wet coats but this really was a minor thing. Hendra being a family site has all of the facilities you would expect. The biggest downfall was everything looked very tired and in need of updating. The Tavern was a let down as I expected a pub (looked nothing like a pub/no pub atmostphere and linked straight through to an amusement arcade!!) The shower block was adequate but very dated with leaky taps, shower doors that didn't close and showers that soaked all your stuff (even if you used the pegs!!). Cleaning/washing up area was dirty, dirty, dirty (old food left in sinks/dirty shelves!) and was right next to the toilet disposal point so yes could get very smelly if you happened to be washing up at the wrong time!! Also was a bit concerned when we arrived that the site had security, this was a first for us as in all the years we have camped, we have never been to a site that had/needed security. But instead of making us feel safe it made us feel uneasy. Hendra is no doubt still a value for money holiday/short break for 'sun' readers but not so for those who pay the 'going' rate as we did!! Having said tall this we will definately not be returning.

We have just returned from the hendra holiday park and had a very pleasent stay. We booked with the sun but upgraded to the new caravans which were immaculate and had everything we needed. The whole park was really clean and all the caravans including the budget ones looked to be kept in good condition. We had no complaints throughout our stay even the food entertainment & location of the park were great. Overall this holiday park is the best we have stayed in so far and we would definitely return if staying in cornwall again.
