Tucked away up a leafy lane, just a few minutes' walk down to the beach, Porth Lodge was a real "find" . This is a small cosy hotel with two friendly bars and small bowling alley which attract some local "regulars".
We booked bed and breakfast for four nights, in two en-suite single rooms. Recently refurbished and redecorated, they had comfortable beds and were good value.
The staff led by Dave, the owner and chef, were helpful, warm and efficient. We really appreciated this aspect of our stay. Breakfast was "full English" to set us up for the day. We had dinner one evening - very fresh fish, cooked simply but perfectly.
It's not luxurious. Yes, some common parts look a wee bit run down. But we hope to go back to Porth Lodge while it's still such value for money - and before the Newquay crowd find it.
ps - it'sclose yet far enough away - five to ten minutes' drive - from the hen-night glitz of downtown Newquay. Porth Lodge and Porth itself seemed in a different world, with its own community of residents and visitors.

My trip to Newquay itself was poor, i came to visit family in a nearby area and it was ruined by the terrible weather. Porth Lodge was a lovely little rustic hotel. I was very please by the location as i had the choice to walk to the beach which was located just at the end of the hill. My room, over looked the side of the hotel, i could just see the sea in the distance. The only thing that bothered me was the distance from town, if you dont have a car it's a little far. When i was there i did manage to go the Eden Project in St Austelle, you can get a bus from in Newquay straight to it.

The staff was always very pleasant. The food was to a good standard. You didnt have to wait long for your food. Vedge bake was to die for. My wife had a lovely soup for starters. I thought the bar had a great choice of drinks that were quite over priced, so look into going into newquay town for drinks if you are on a budget.

The room was clean, i really liked the lay out of it, the bathroom was a little small for two people. We were replenished of fresh towels everyday, i just had to ask for anything and the cleaner would help.

I would recommend for anyone to go Porth Lodge. I didnt get the chance to try out the bowling alley, maybe next time i will.

Absolutely perfet location at the top of a (rather steep) hill leading down to the beautiful porth beach withliterally miles of sand. The room was lovely very small but perfect for a couple the bathroom was small but very very modern and clean, fantastic shower! The only slight problem with the room was that ours was leading onto the roof above the kitchen so you could smell the chip pan which rather puts you off eating in the restaurant although we prefer to eat in Newquay town anyway. Also the kitchen staff played music which travelled up into the room of an evening. The other thing that really let the hotel down was the unfriendliness of the cleaner, we are not breakfast eaters and preferred to walk into town for breakfaast rather than wake -up and have breakfast in the hotel (although it looked lovely!) One paricualr morning it got to half nine and we were still getting dressed, the cleaner knocked on the door and very stroppily asked if we wanted the room cleaned or not. I dont think half past nine is unreasonable for a lie in concidering we were on holiday and we would be out of the room by 10. We were then met with unfriendly glares for the rest of the week. However this really was the only complaint and the room was cleaned very well so no problems there. The hotel is only a 15 minute walk from Newque town along the coast path and is a real bargain! They also serve rattler in the bar and a range of other beers and ciders.

have recently returned from a weeks hoiliday with my boyfriend. Set in a lovely location down a quiet country lane that leads to porth beach. Only a 5 minute walk and your there.

our first impression werent brilliant, from the outside it needs a good lick of paint and a tidy up. the front of the hotel looks nice and quaint though. Once inside its ok very dark and again needs painting and lighting up. They are however in the process of doing it up all new doors inside, new windows and i think the rooms have all been modernised. we were put in a self catering room even though we were bed breakfast and evening meal. it was good having the kitchen and the room was big.

The bathroom was tiny and so was the shower. the shower was also coming off the wall and the doors were really stiff to close, the toilet also didnt flush properly. The room needed new carpet. And it was a bit of a mission to get to our room (up 2 flights of stairs and along lots of different corridors). We did have a really nice view from our room as we were so high up.

The food was lovely breakfast was cearel and you cound have a full english, a sandwich or some thing on toast. they would give you as much toast as you wanted and tea and coffee nothing was to muchn to ask for. Evening meal was good aswell 3 courses every night. if theres nothing you like just ask for somethong else and there happy to do it. The lasange was lovely. A lady called Anne served you breakfast and dinner and she is lovely, she really made our holiday. You can ask her anything and she will do her best to sort it out.

The biggest let down for this hotel is the cleaners. The cups in the kitchen had tea stains on them and lipstick marks. there were all bits of food in the cupboards and watch out for the milk they leave in the room. they left us two that went our of date 4 months ago. Our room was never hooved in the week we where there and you had to keep asking for clean towels otherwise you didnt get any.

They have a bowling alley which is free to residents until 12.00. we used to have a couple of games eveyday after breakfast.

Over all even though there seem alot of bad i would go back and i would recommand. Its location is perfect and the food was perfect. Like i said its the cleaners that let it down.

Give it a year or so and i think it'll look amazing. The current owners havent had it that long.

when arrived, we received a lovely warm welcome. Our room was a family room with interconnecting door to the childrens room, bunk beds.
We had a superby onsuite, with shower.
Flat screen television. Tea and Coffee making facilities
The food was delicious, good choice, 4 choices of main courses each night, starters, etc. Use of the bowling alley every morning. There was pool tables. It was a stone throw to the beach, which was gorgeous. Would certainly go again.,

I stayed at Porth Lodge Hotel just last weekend. Myself and my husband had pondered upon camping but decided to treat ourselves and stay in a little local hotel instead. Needless to say, by the end of the trip, we wished we had camped.

The walls were so thin the first night we were woken with next door snoring and the second night the tv blaring from 3am - 5am. We comforted ourselves during this time that a nice cooked breakfast would follow in the morning but when the time came for our fry up we were sadly dissapointed. My plate was awash with tomato juice from a plumb tomato fresh from the tin and my eggs werent cook.

I should also meantion that the beds were so uncomfortabel that you were constantly woken with springs in your back. I will never go back and i am upset that i could have been more comfortable camping and saved myself some cash.
