Myself and my partner stayed here for one night, en-route to a three night break at The Watergate Bay Hotel (now there is a fantastic hotel!). I must admit that he website for The Porth Lodge is somewhat misleading and when we pulled up outside, we nearly drove off to find a better place to stay. However, having paid £50, we thought what the hell, we'll get what we've paid for.
The place is ok - not the usual kind of luxury hotel that we stay in - but we wanted character and that's what we got - to some degree. We were lucky that the room looked newly decorated - the bed was comfy and the room quiet (Room 1). The shower however, was awful - the water pressure was very low and resulted in a brief shower of sorts. The bathroom was also extremely small.
We ate in the bar - having travelled all day we didn't want to venture in to Newquay (looked grim anyway). The food was edible, but was frozen fish in batter - for a coastal area, this is not great. However it filled a gap and we have Fifteen and Rick Stein's Restaurant to look forward to!
I wouldn't stay here again - it's not our kind of place, but others seem to really enjoy their stay there. The staff were approachable and welcoming.
