“Great food and beer!”
Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

Visited a few times on my recent trip to the gorgeous Mousehole. Beer is excellent, and the fish and chips I had was excellent. Really fresh and tasty. I found the locals and the service friendly. Will definitely return.

My Partner and I stayed here for 5 Nights in May in the cottage next door to the pub itself. Although the room was small and could be hot at times it was clean and adaquate for us. We were on the ground floor and had a lovely view across the harbour, which is what you're paying for.

The breakfast was great; if you stay bear in mind they only serve from 9.00am which at first I thought was a bit late, but it wasn't if we were up early then we'd go for a walk around the village have breakfast and then go out for the day.

The dinner's we ate at the Pub were really good and the menu isn't overpriced. We also ate at two nice restaurants which were more expensive but lovely called the Cornish Range & 2 Fore Street.

The staff at The Ship Inn were very friendly and pleasant including the locals, if we're back in this part of Cornwall we would return to The Ship Inn.

A nice family night out ruined by a very unpleasant local.

My elderly father went to the bar to order more drinks and a very strange man, wearing a knitted tam o’shanter and unable to control his small, yappy dog, first said something my father couldn’t understand and then tried to pick a fight with him. My father came back from the bar, obviously shaken, and said we should all leave before matters got worse. This man was clearly well known to the staff, who heard what happened, but no one intervened. A pity that some of the The Ship's locals obviously get free reign to have a go at any tourists they so choose to.

As we were on holiday for two weeks we would normally have gone back to The Ship but regularly saw the same man smoking at the rail outside the pub with his dog and didn’t want to risk a repeat performance. Fortunately we found The Old Coastguard (the only other hotel in Mousehole) which was very friendly and civilised and we were able to have some lovely nights out there so our holiday was not ruined.

Interestingly, we met another couple in the Old Coastguard who said they had had a similar experience at The Ship, apparently with the same man. ‘Mr Weirdo’ engaged the husband in conversation by asking where he came from but then went on to repeatedly asked why he didn’t go back there! Obviously par for the course at The Ship.

Such a pity as it’s a lovely old pub but I couldn’t recommend it unless the owners can sort out the aggressive atmosphere.

I stayed with my partner for 2 nights in room 8, which overlooks the harbor, which of course IS amazing!

Negatives: the décor is soo old fashioned it's not even funny, woodchip wallpaper painted cream (magnolia dare I say), the furniture was something from a local Travel Lodge sale and the bathroom was very understated, in fact the room and bathroom were very understated, the room was a disappointment, if you had your back to the bay window you could be anywhere in land, Wolverhampton for instance, no creativity at all, which I'd assume would be 2nd nature to anyone decorating a room in a small harbor village, like Mousehole!
I'd liken it to staying in a private NHS room, awaiting an operation which is such a shame as Mousehole is beautiful, soooo beautiful.

It doesn't need that much doing to it to give it that classic coastal vibe, but this room just didn't have it, i feel terrible saying, for the price you'd expect some classic coastal vibe in the room but it didn't exist, such a shame.

Positives: the location is fantastic, with (if you get them) harbor views, we ate in the Ship Inn (in the bar) and the food was outstanding and excellent value for money, I'd highly recommend you eat here, it really is terrific.
The breakfast is very good, well cooked and hearty!

This review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion of this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 8 over looks the harbor, from Google StreetView, as you look at the white 'cottage', to...

We stayed here Friday night last week to go and see a gig at the Minack theatre.
We saw all the reviews and photos online, looked amazing, but the room we had was average, the bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean. Room was so hot, the storage heater couldn't be switched off, so we were sweltering all night, had the worst nights sleep ever.
Food, ordered chips and they were soaked in oil, made me feel sick.
Only up side was the breakfast the morning after, it was actually half decent.
£100 a room, very, very overpriced, yeah the view of the harbour was lovely, but the room was just mediocre.
We did complain about the heating and was told it was an old building!!!
Beware if your staying here and going to the Minack the taxi is £21 each way.

As fairly frequent visitors to Mousehole, my wife and I have always been meaning to stay at The Ship. Well now we have and are we glad we did, albeit for just the one night! Superb accommodation, the room (No 3) overlooking the harbour and the bay beyond is the one if you can get it. Food is excellent (lunch, dinner and breakfast) and the staff can't be more friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend!

Room Tip: Room 3 overlooking the harbour

Stayed for 2 nights with our dog, and we were absolutely delighted. The staff were all friendly and so helpful. The "with dog" part of our reservation information got lost - and they didn't bat an eye. We were sorted out in moments, and the dog was very happy. She had lots of treats, pats, and loving, and the room was perfect for us all. Finding a nice place that accepts dogs is wonderful. She was welcome in the bar area and we were able to order food there. Speaking of food - just be aware that the portions are LARGE so come hungry. Our room was on the ground floor in the front, which could have been noisy as the road is right there - but it wasn't. First night we were a bit hot, and couldn't figure out why. Turns out we had left the heated towel rail on, and it was heating up the whole room! Turned it off the second night and were very comfortable. Really a lovely stay and would definitely stay many times more. Mousehole is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and the Ship Inn is a fantastic place to experience it.
