Went to the Squid Ink for a meal on the last night of our holiday in Looe and what a meal it was.
This is a small restaurant on a quiet street in East Looe run by a lovely couple Catherine and Warren, The interior is nicely decorated with a separate bar / waiting area with comfy sofas and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive without being pushy.
The menu has a good choice of dishes mainly made from locally sourced ingredients.
Once seated we were brought some very good bread and an amuse bouche of an Asian spiced broth which was very good and a sign of things to come.
Starters were for me local Fowey Mussel which i loved (although maybe a rather large portion for a starter - not that i am complaining) and my partner had Tempura Squid which a wasabi dip which was very good indeed. For my main i had Sirloin Steak which i can honestly say was one of the best i have ever had and cooked to perfection (rare of course) - a triumph. My partner had fillets of brill which was also very tasty. We went for some traditional desserts of treacle tart (nicely sticky) with clotted cream and creme brulee which my partner raved about.
All in all an absolutely superb meal.
We chatted with the owner/chef Warren after our meal and it was great to find that he knows all his local suppliers and even told me the breed of cow my steak came from (what more can you ask). We suggested he came back North and opened a restaurant nearer to Manchester but he didn't seem to keen (shame)!!
