Good food, good view, good service! We spent 5 days in the hotel last year, liked it, came back to have dinner - just as good as last years. We come back again next year!

My other half and I went on a short get away to Falmouth this weekend and stayed at St Michaels, so The Flying Fish was very conveniently placed for us and the view from the dining room is incredible! We dined here twice, and enjoyed it the first time although we thought the portions were a bit lacking and the second time was also a little dissapointing. On the second night we both liked the look of the surf n turf platter (£25) so we had one each for our main. What a mistake! We were presented with a tiny 4oz piece of steak, 2 prawns and 2 scallops and (lots of) fries which took all of about 5 minutes for us to finish. Yes, on the menu it does state exactly what comes with the platter, but the size of this portion really has to be seen to be believed! Safe to say, we felt ripped off and my boyfriend even ordered another main because he was still THAT hungry.

However apart from this both our meals were great and the staff are even better, very friendly and polite and try their best to cater to your every need! The only let down of the place is the portion size vs price, they either need to lower their prices a bit or increase portion sizes!

We booked a meal here after seeing an article about the newly refurbished hotel restaurant in the local paper, and we are always keen to try out new places and this will probably be one of our favourites. The menu offered a balanced choice with some creative combinations that you associate with top notch restaurants or you could have more traditional favourites such as Tribute beer battered fish and chips (delicious). The food was presented with flair, pleasingly stacked, drizzled and decorated but what really sold it to us was the interior, despite a pleasingly modern and light décor, they have resisted the latest trend for wooden floors and no soft furnishings, instead opting for modern carpet, soft dining chairs and crisp white tablecloths, so that acoustically it was a much more relaxing and pleasant experience, with lower noise levels than you would normally expect in a busy restaurant. Incidentally, if you love home made sorbets, the blood orange sorbet was the best I've ever had. Oh, and the gardens sloping down towards the sea and visible from the restaurant, were beautiful
