Stayed here for three days at the end of a week of hiking the SWCP. Part was booked by our outfitter, and thru them I had upgraded to a premier room. Nothing premier about it. Saw another similar room which looked far nicer.

First the shower wouldn't drain, then I noticed either general filth or worse, mold on the base of the shower by the sink. I don't think the back of the bathroom door had ever been painted, nor the trim. The hair dryer did not work, there were no hooks on which to hang towels but there was a lengthy note about the need to hang them up.

The whole place had the looked of lack of attention. The front walk hadn't been swept; there was an over turned ashtray by a bench in the courtyard that stayed there the whole time. An ironing board sat in the hallway all while we were there. Cobwebs with bugs adorned the chandeliers. (The bugs came through a broken rotting window "under repair"?? on the landing.)

The whole place needed some $$ and TLC.

It wasn't all bad. There is a neat vibe about it, Geoff, the owner, is friendly and the included breakfast was decent. It has a great location. If they would give the old place some love it could be great.

Book here last minute for location reasons. Big b&b in old style. It is dated and in need of a facelift. Our room was hot and had to leave window open all night. Furniture old dated, the bed squeaked with every turn. The room was set up for a single, one cup, one towel even though we booked double.

Everyone at The Grove was welcoming, buffet and full breakfast great. Beds and rooms comfortable. Place inviting and very relaxing. Location near the waterfront and shops is excellent. Thank you Geoff. Enjoyed the chats. We loved our short stay with you. The Chittles...

It's a shame but this beautiful old hotel in a great location is very dated. Our room had a hole in the floor which a carefully placed rug couldn't disguise. I think a major makeover and this could be an amazing hotel. Having said that it is very reasonably priced with a nice breakfast.

Even though this is not a great review, thank you for taking the time to complete it.
We must acknowledge the negatives comments and be grateful for all the positives.
The hotel is nearly 200 years old and we try to respect it and pay homage to its
history Many guests seem to enjoy the Georgian and Victorian features.
We renovate a couple of rooms each year so that does mean some rooms might need
more TLC than others.
We will look again at our renovation programme.
We hope this did not detract too much from your overall experience at The Grove.
