We rolled up to the lifeboat station expecting a small display or quick look around part of the station. Instead, we had a personal 70 minute guided tour from Simon, showing us all the equipment, including the smaller lifeboat, an in-depth and fascinating explanation about how it all worked, and best of all a look round the all-weather lifeboat, moored just outside. It was absolutely fascinating, an unmissable experience which I would recommend to anybody and everybody visiting the area!

“Falmouth lifeboat station.”
Reviewed September 21, 2013 via mobile

Brilliant lifeboat station. To be able to have a tour and see the true workings of a lifeboat, the crew. The gift shop where you can chat and speak to local volunteers who take so make pride in assisting with selling the items. Well worth a visit, but please spend some money or give a donation, such a worthwhile cause.

“Amazing little gem!!!”

The only word to describe this station and the subsequent tour is awesome.

We had travelled to Falmouth to visit the National Maritime Museum whilst on a holiday in Cornwall. Having an admiration for the work of the RNLI and it's lifeboat crews the station was pointed out to us by the crew of the Falmouth park and float ferry.

The station is a few minutes walk from the main quayside, but is well worth the walk. Thinking it would be like other RNLI stations we had visited we thought you would just be able to look at the boats from a viewing platform. However, on arriving and asking in the gift shop we were informed that a volunteer would actually give us a guided tour of the station. We were subsequently joined by Patrick he proceeded to take us around the station. What was exceptional is you get shown the crew areas and are within touching distance of the boats and equipment. Patrick was very knowledgable but also very personable and easy to chat to and ask questions. Then and the real treat from me he took us onto the all weather lifeboat. At Falmouth the boat is permanently moored on the quayside unlike a number of stations where the boats are launched from ramps. We were taken around the boat and given a tour of the inside. The way Patrick talked to us we not only got a good technical insight into the boats and the mechanics of a rescue but got a real sense of personal nature of the crews and what they give up in order to perform this valuable service. Also this entire tour was free of charge, although how anyone could not be persuaded to donate some money after completing this tour is beyond me.

The only advice I would give is I imagine it can get busy during busy periods and on parting we were advised if you were part of a larger group some planning and notification ahead of your visit would be welcomed.

I can honestly say that as someone with little sea faring knowledge this tour was exceptional and really was one of the highlights for me. A fantastic insight into the workings of a modern lifeboat station and to the fabulous work these men and women perform for us all.

“See a working lifeboat first hand!”

The Falmouth Lifeboat is located next to the Lifeboat Shop and there is always someone on hand to give you a guided tour. The shop is well stocked with various gifts which help to support the work of the Lifeboats!

“What an experience!!”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We travelled in to Falmouth by using the wonderful "Park & Float" facility and whilst thereon, we were told of the Falmouth LifeBoat Station. As it was suitably recommended, we walked the short distance round to the facility. We enquired in the Gift Shop about whether there could be the possibilty of a "tour" and then spent the next 30 minutes or so enthralled!! We got to see on the tour the Crew Rooms (the children loved the named wellies....), the RIBs stored inside the building and we were even allowed on to the Offshore lifeboat. An amazing tour, full of anecdotes and very educational too. Definitely and highly recommended by our party
