From the moment we arrived we felt like special guests. All the staff were very attentive but not intrusive. The sea view room was spacious and comfortable. All complimentary items were of good quality. Breakfast was cooked to order and very tasty. We had sandwiches for lunch on one of the days that were very generously filled with delicious crab. The next day we chose afternoon tea which was equally generous and delicious. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on one of the evenings. We could not fault the food. It was well presented and the portion sizes were perfect. The poultry starter was an intricate checkerboard of dark and light meat. Soup of the day was delicious too - celeriac. It didn't seem to matter what we selected it was all cooked beautifully from beef through to tofu. The pastry chef here is very skilled too.

Thank you for your review, your kind comments regarding your stay at the hotel are very much appreciated.

We are delighted that you enjoyed dinner in our new Pendennis Restaurant. Our team of chefs led by John Mijatovic, take great pride in creating dishes that make the most of British seasonal produce.

We very much hope that we shall have the opportunity of welcoming back to the Royal Duchy Hotel again in the future.

This hotel is amazing! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The pool, sauna and beauty areas are very relaxing, the decor is tasteful and elegant and the views of the sea and castle are breathtaking. It is just a short stroll to the harbour, shops and restaurants. We would not hesitate to book in here again!

The warm greeting from James the Concierge, extended to the Manager, the Reception, the Maître d' and Waitresses, clearly it radiated throughout the staff. The staff were very pleasant, helpful, willing to initiate and engage in conversation, resulting in a high quality service.

The two-day stay was to celebrate our wedding anniversary, aware of this the Manager generously provided our room with a bottle of champagne. This kind gesture complemented the flowers and chocolates that already came with the booking.

Prior to our stay we were informed of the small portions of food, unfortunately this did prove to be correct. For ourselves there wasn’t enough lamb on our 1st evening and beef the following evening.

There was scaffolding directly outside the bathroom window, may I suggest that the ends of the scaffolding poles are capped off, this would eliminate the unmelodic fluting sound that emanates from the poles as the wind blows through them.

The bedroom was a little small, but for a two-night stay it was otherwise perfect. The bedroom and en suite were very clean and comfortable.

Despite the ‘niggles’, our stay was a delightful experience, one that we plan to enjoy again.

This was our first visit to The Royal Duchy for several years and we had a very enjoyable weekend.
It was good to see that they had so many familiar staff who have been there for a number of years, James greeted us like long lost friends and we were very impressed that he remembered us, Barry the general manger was again extremely friendly and helpful as usual.
We had a very nice spacious room although it was just a standard room we were on the side and had a view of the sea. We arrived for afternoon tea which was excellent and on the Saturday we had a pasty which was just enough after a very filling breakfast. The evening meal was perfectly adequate but just seemed to lack the wow factor. The three course evening meal including coffee was £35 but it was interesting to note that the restaurant was probably half full whereas in the past it used to be virtually full. Maybe people don't think it now offers good value for money. We were on dinner bed and breakfast so it didn't make any difference to us. In the past they used to take your order in the bar while people were enjoying a pre-dinner drink, which I quite liked. Now you just order at the table. We had a very good spacious table which we prefer, the service in the restaurant was very good friendly and efficient like the rest of the hotel. I am probably old fashioned but I like the dress code and it is good to see that people are making an effort to get dressed up for dinner.
The weather was wonderful which obviously makes a big difference and we had a very relaxing weekend walking and lazing on the sun loungers overlooking the beach.
We will certainly go there again.

My friends and I visited on 31st of May, for afternoon tea on the terrace. Every member of staff we encountered on our way in greeted us warmly. Someone came to take our order swiftly and despite the hotel being very busy, due to the Red Arrows performing over the bay, nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff.
The food was gorgeous. We really enjoyed our day.

Stayed at the Royal Duchy as part of a group package tour at the end of May 2014 and can only describe it as 'top notch'. Not only was the service, cuisine and ambience of an extremely high standard but the staff were polite and friendly - nothing was too good for them. The Maitre de (Michael Keegan) was friendly, attentive and obviously a good leader for the staff. Although we had a room facing inland, the décor and cleanliness was of the highest standard and conducted by the background staff (room maids/cleaning etc) who were very friendly and quietly efficient. I have travelled quite a bit around the world and this hotel has to be in the top bracket.
On this site, I have seen negative feedback (and of course people are entitled to their opinions) but what I have seen does not reflect what I experienced!
Thanking everyone at The Royal Duchy for an excellent and smoothly run week!

Room Tip: Paying the extra will get you a sea view room - which is much better.

This hotel was beautiful. The sea view from the room was excellent and although the weather was wet at times, we took advantage & just relaxed. I had a spa treatment which was lovely and much needed as my husband and I had just returned from overseas. The food served in the hotel was absolutely beautiful & couldn't be faulted. The service was excellent. Well worth the money. It was a lovely, relaxed week.
