Owner description: Phoenix is an award winning independently operated multi-screen cinema on the east coast of Cornwall in the historic town of Falmouth. It is housed within a beautiful Nineteenth Century former "Drill Hall" building. Phoenix contains five cinema screens playing mainstream, classic and art-house releases with three auditoria offering luxury seating with armchairs, sofas, side tables and full waiter service. The two main larger auditoria provide traditional theatre-style cinema seating with stadium layouts and full digital sound and picture. The cinema, as you'd expect, also has a long contemporary confectionery and popcorn counter, but it also houses a stylish bar and restaurant on the first floor with chef-prepared meals, light cinema-snacks or freshly ground coffee and pots of tea. In 2009, the year that Phoenix opened, it won the prestigious UK Independent Cinema Of The Year award. Phoenix is part of the Merlin Cinemas group

It's little and cost and just perfect!
It's independant so it's not chepa but it's well worth it.
Just go to any film that's in the luxury screen, where you cna cuddle up on the 2 person sofas with a glass (or bottle) or wine and share some food whilst the film is on. A great night out!

It was a real treat to visit this cinema during our stay in Falmouth - the bar area is great; leave time before your film to enjoy a coffee, glass of wine or even pre-movie dinner there. The screens are decorated very in an old-fashioned but highly comfortable style and the ticket prices are fair. Old school cinema with all the necessary mod-cons to ensure a good viewing experience. We would definitely go again!

Visit this lovely little cinema in Falmouth and if you can, get into screen 3 or 4. Comfy seats, friendly staff and would you believe waiter service! Watched Les Miserable in this charming and cosy cinema with a glass of wine. It doesn't get better than this!

We've just been to Phoenix and I agree, the staff are delightful. It's just a shame that the cinema's main income generation is through the sale of noisy and messy sugar and fat drenched foods and that we have a society which can't even cope with a 1.5 hr film without stuffing their already overfull bellies. I object to paying to see a film when I'm surrounded by a munching, paper rustling audience who would have done better to eat their meals at home either before or after the performance. On leaving the cinema it was impossible not to see the revolting mess left behind by one of the offenders all over the sofa and floor, popcorn everywhere! The waiter for the performance said this was not unusual - it's disgusting and revolting but sadly typical of this provincial, slovenly and third rate town.

Slight concern as before going in to tonight's film I purchased tickets for a live screening of Alice in Wonderland(the ballet) from Royal Opera Covent Garden at the end of March. The tickets (with a Magic Movie Card) were £13 each and I will be more than dismayed if at this performance we are plagued by a similar audience. Are my partner and I alone in objecting to being subjected to this whilst we are trying to immerse ourselves in an otherwise delightful film? Had been very excited to see that there are to be live screenings of opera from the Met and Royal Opera House but the concept of opera accompanied by rustling, munching and scratching about in paper cartons just doesn't thrill me.

Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. I am afraid that you are correct, food and drink is an enormously important part of a cinema's profitability and it's crucial that we do sell these items in order to sustain the business. However we are aware that not everyone enjoys eating in the auditorium and this is why we have a really large lounge and cafe' bar area where (hopefully) many can relax and indulge before their film. In the case of our Opera and Ballet presentations it's very unusual for snacks to be consumed inside the theatre and most do take advantage of our bar area to eat and drink before or after the show. However, as with live venues, you will see our ice cream trays at the intermission, and we do sell lots. I do hope it won't spoil your enjoyment if you see people having the odd vanilla cup inside the show! One thing we feel we can't agree with, and that's your description of Falmouth. Of course you are totally entitled to your opinion, but we think it's a wonderfully charming town with lots of character and unique attractions. We hope Phoenix is considered one of these.

It is a good cinema, most of the screens are very good & the sofas are very comfy. The foods a bit overpriced but it's quite tasty.. Although the 20 minute wait for the film to start was very frustrating!!
