Yet another hotel undergoing refurbishment; so different from our last hotel stay. (see Crabwall Manor). Despite all that was going on the staff remained cheerful, friendly, and happy and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay was achieved. Our room, an executive one was large, large enough to hold sprint races in, as our next door neighbours demonstrated over and over again. Thin Walls! The balcony was a nice touch and allowed privacy as well as opening the room to more light. Well decorated throughout with nice artwork on the walls. We had a lovely Jacuzzi bath although unfortunately we shared it with a few hairs from the previous occupier. We were situated above the swimming pool complex which caused concern due to the aroma of chlorine in the corridors and the room, slept with an open window, lucky it wasn’t too cold. We were awoken twice, once by a lovely Owl sitting outside in the tree, we live in the countryside and it made us feel at home and another by workmen sawing wood at 7am, thought they were very motivated especially on a Sunday Morning! Breakfast was great, well cooked, well presented and well served. Afternoon tea was really good and although had a little wait it was worth it and very tasty too. Apart from the minor issues our stay was pleasant warm and we were well looked after and we look forward to sampling their Executive suite that was unavailable due to the refurbishment. The hotel went out of their way to ensure we had a relaxing weekend after dropping our daughter off at University.

December 12th and 30 of us sat down for a celebration lunch at the hotel's 'Garras' restaurant. What a celebration that turned out to be! Never in my life have I experienced such a dreadful meal.
The room was freezing so they brought nice warm plates, presumably to put our hands on as nothing happened for the next 10 minutes by which time the plates were cold. Not that this mattered much as the food, when it came, was inedible. Those choosing roast beef were treated to 4 wafer-thin slices of grey meat with a blackened object which upon investigation turned out to have once been a yorkshire pudding. Those selecting turkey fared no better; soggy tasteless meat accompanied by a blob of so-called 'stuffing' which hadn'd seen the inside of anything except perhaps the chef's dog. Not forgetting the chipolata sausage wrapped in warm raw bacon.
As to the vegetables, credit where due - the parsnips were excellent and the sprouts acceptable. The carrots, however, had no taste whatsoever and the roast potatoes were a culinary miracle, contriving to be both burnt and soggy at the same time!
Gravy (brown for the 'beef' and yellowish for the turkey) were served along with cranberry sauce in what appeared to be small metal milk jugs. They had used whole cranberries and served it warm which is unusual but had forgotten to add any sugar; the result was not just tart, it was acidic.
The less said about the Christmas pudding the better; an oblong block of what appeared to be a nondescript fruit cake smothered in white gloop.
All this served by 2 'waiters' who had as much idea of serving at table as I have to speak chinese. Dressed in jeans and T-shirts they would have been more at home in a transport cafe. I don't hold their appearance against them, it must be difficult to get experienced staff at a restaurant as poor as this, but one of them stank of garlic,
We beat a retreat to the lounge for coffee and tea as there was a dying log fire there which we built up to give the room some heat. Coffee and tea turned out to be a 'do-it-yourself' job as our dynamic duo simply dumped the pots down and left; unfortunately they brought no cups - these we discovered in an adjacent room.
It's unusual to find a combination of lousy food, bad service and an ambience which require arctic clothing. Never again!

The staff here are nothing short of attentive. Stopped here on numerous visits over the years and to date, have never been disappointed.
Rooms are very well equipped and generally clean and tidy, hats off to the cleaning staff.
Having a pool, sauna and 'a gym', you can expend some energy before a nice 10-15 minute walk into Falmouth town center, to explore the plethora of dining there is on offer.
The Breakfast buffet is generally super with a great variety of choices, leaving the majority of picky patrons with little to fuss about. If you enjoy a cheesy, fishy omelet, the Garra's omelet is a smashing start to the day.
Happy holidays.
