Excellent food. We had the scallops and fish and chips. Two choices of cooking beef dripping for the traditional method of cooking and the crispiest batter, or vegetable oil. First class.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Let me start by saying that I'm really not a fish eater but my partner is, so every once in a while I'll stomach some cod!

We had just been to the Maritime Museum and thought we would give it a try. I had cod and chips in vegetable oil (you can choose the type of batter you'd like). The portion sizes were large and I struggled to finish. The bread was amazing. For pudding we ordered a lemon tart and an ice cream. The tart arrived promptly but after a few minutes we asked the whereabouts of the ice cream. The waiter was very apologetic and admitted that he had forgotten. Soon after the ice cream arrived. It was worth the wait!

To apologise for the late arrival of pudding, the after dinner coffee was provided for free! The service here is first class.

The best place to sit is at the window seats so that you can watch the harbour. We will definitely visit again.

“Special 6-course chef taster evening upstairs”
Reviewed June 15, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely brilliant. Main chef tutor from Padstow came and served a 6-course taster menu for less than £40/head. Lasted for over 3 hours and he visited tables to chat between courses. Meat and fish and utterly delicious. If there were 5 stars they would get it

“Great fish and chips restaurant”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

As far as casual fish and chip restaurants go this is as good as it gets. The decor is cafe style with nice views out to the square and onto the harbour. the seating is a combination of high tables, high bars and communal tables. It is open, pleasant and is inductive if you want to interact with other diners.

The food is basic seafood, especially fish, cooked and presented and served with extreme professionalism and in the manner to which the menu and chef intended when designing the food offerings. The portions are large and the chips are great. the choice of fish and seafood is ample. the battered fish is superb, crisp and fluffy and not oily.

The wine list is limited but the choices are adequate. we choose to sit at a high bar table so we could look out to the harbour. This provided a pleasant yet casual dining experience that was perfect for a dine in fish and chips night out.

I am looking forward to my return.
