First off, I have absolutely no criticisms of the staff - all very charming and helpful. Good facilities and a atmosphere. I am only writing this to warn prospective guests not to stay on the top floor if they can avoid it (I have no experience of the other rooms so cannot comment). I arrived tired after a 5 hour drive one night last week to get a single room. I was NOT told that there was going to be a function with disco until midnight and after that, function guests continued chatting in their room below keeping me awake until gone almost 5 am. They were not being rowdy, just talking but the walls and floor of the top floor rooms are wafer thin (cheap conversion I think in the ?1970s?); I could even hear the bathroom light pull in the room below!
You may think that the guests are at fault and they were certainly pretty inconsiderate, but they weren't being 'rowdy' and I would expect that a hotel room should be sufficiently sound insulated that one doesn't have to feel as if you are in an expensive dormitory, sharing the discussion with your fellow guests! The hotel owner told me the next morning that some of the rooms are being refurbished, but unless that refurbishment includes better sound insulation, the issue may not be addressed. I have rated the room 'poor' only becasue it was quite dated and terribly insulated - otherwise it was clean and serviceable as a basic single room.
So, nice hotel, but don't stay on the top floor unless you know you have quiet neighbours!

Room Tip: avoid the top floor!

We enjoyed our recent stay at the hotel, while visiting families in Falmouth for Christmas. Our room was tucked away in the back and can do well with a bit of renovation. Having said that, the reception lounge was very cosy and nicely decorated for the holidays. Pastries, chocolates, and treats were provided to guests, which was a wonderful welcome for us after our long journey to reach Falmouth. Food at the restaurant was excellent – we’d go back even if we’re not staying there.

And the heated indoor pool was definitely a treat on a cold day.

We have held two networks here over the last two months and have to say the support has been outstanding!

Many of our members have commented on the amazing transformation the hotel has undergone in recent months and I understand more to come - a beautiful hotel!

Fantastic customer service experienced both at network events, business planning team day and whilst popping in for lunch with my family.

From evening canapés, business breakfasts and lunch - food has been of high quality - wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for any event!

Had to go to falmouth for a interview at university...
booked for 2 nights..on a single room...included breakfast..paid only 60pounds a night
arrived at around 6pm, staff very friendly and helpful
took me to my room straight away
i was surprised...
for a 3 star hotel, it had a lot to offer.
the room pretty clean, very well equipped... with 24inch lcd tv, a nice decent bed, a nice big wardrobe....one sofa armchair and one small office table where you can use your computer an such with loads of space....
decent lighting, nice window and good heating..
the bathroom very clean, quite big considering..
They had room service, which was pretty good,as not a lot of 3 stars hotel have.
i ordered later that night a nice dinner from the menu..
i gotta say it..delicious!
decent priced..
the chef knows how to cook!
on that day the reception asked if i wanted an wakeup call for breakfast i said yes, at 8.30
next day, wake up with the call at 6.30? i dont really know what happened, well maybe just a small mistake...but thats ok
on he night before, after dinner around 11, i wanted to order some juice and some dessert, but then i find out that the kitchen is closed, and only thing i can get is water..i am a bit surprised since in the menu says after 9.30pm they only serve cold food, but still cold food...
another minor problem..
but ok, not a dealbreaker..
the hotel seemed to be in a major refurbshiment? not sure...heard some noises in the morning, but nothing too loud tho..
look, they staff were super helpful, polite
they got great potential there
the hotel offers swimming pool, sauna, gym, jacuzzi...all that..i've been to other 4,5 star hotels in europe, and some of them dont offer the same service. so well done for that
they got great potential, if they improve a bit of the room service, and the staff get more training, it will be amazing.
who knows within 4,5 years they can go up to 4 stars? not too far behind!
the bathroom had ammenities, such as all the towels, and shampoo, conditioner, body lotion...all very nice..
one minor thing,is that after they didnt refill it, when the housekeeping came on the next morning...they didnt clean as much as i would like in general, again minor issue, easily fixed..
I am a guy that can feel easily hot, and i am always hot, even when its cold..so i always like a cool ambient..i think the sound of the fan or the cool air helps me to sleep..i dont know..
since its winter, they had the heater on.
i kindly asked if they could provide me a fan, and they did indeed, very helpful!
another point.
oh yes, free wifi..pretty good signal
the location is good, but not the best if you want to go walking..
but again only £3 a taxi from the hotel to the town centre, lol
the breakfast was pretty good in general, maybe in the future as they improve, i would like to see more options in the cold section? such as more fruits, iogurts and such.
the hote itself, veyr beautiful, i like the style....
but again, loved it.
loads of potential.

Room Tip: not sure...

A friend and I dined at the Merchants Manor recently and were both pleasantly surprised. The new owners have done an amazing renovation and the new staff were very welcoming! Nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious! Prices were very competitive to other local establishments. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

My teenage daughter stayed one night in January to attend an event at the local University and I was very pleased with the attentive and professional approach of the staff. She arrived very late at night, liked her very well appointed room and a short walk across the road was the location of the University event. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel, well done ...

We attended the Merchant Manor Hotel as guests of a company for a Christmas meal on the Saturday evening before Christmas. When we arrived, we went to the bar to get a drink- this took about 10 -15 minutes to get served. There were at the most 3 bartenders and there was only 1 person in front waiting to be served. This was very frustrating and we had never known this to happen when the hotel was run as "the Green Lawns." At 7.30pm, we were all ushered in to the dining room to eat. Some of the girls immediately noticed how cold the room was as being a Christmas event, some had sleeveless outfits on. It appeared that the radiators were only warming up after we had been sitting down for about 20 minutes. We were also squashed like sardines at the table. There were about a dozen of us . Surely the restaurant would have warmed the room up first then turn the heating down? The starters arrived quite promptly-- very disappointing, as one of the diners on our table remarked how "minimalist" it was. This was the salmon and beetroot dish. Then, it was 9.00pm when the main course arrived. This was an unacceptable delay as we have never been to a meal where diners had to wait an hour and a half for the main course. The timing of the meals should not have posed a problem for the hotel as they were given guests' choices well in advance (that is, about a week in advance). The roast potatoes were rock hard, we couldn't poke our forks into them. We think that they were probably frozen and not heated through properly. The next lot of potatoes were much better. There were a couple of diners still eating their main dish when the waitress started removing everybody's plates away. This was an absolute "faux pas" in terms of customer service! This waitress was obviously not trained to wait until everybody had finished. Very embarrassing as the diners had to quickly eat up. The desserts were ok but not memorable. The coffee was served in expresso type cups. In all, it gave you the impression that the management were "cutting corners." I would not recommend this venue for a meal- the service was untrained, food poor, delays unacceptable. It is a shame as we have been to several dinner and dinner dances before the Green Lawns was taken over by the Merchant Manor with no complaints. To date, not impressed with the service and restaurant.
