Had lunch at the pub. Only had light bites - my wife the chicken liver pate, me the soup. Neither were inspiring though. My soup was good but quite a small bowl, It was supposed to come with home made bread which sounded appealing but if it was home made it was poor. Three slices, a bit dry. And the worst bit was that instead of butter it was served with a small pot of what tasted like a cheap margarine/oil based spread.

Well, what can i say. I am not one for writing reviews, this is only the second i have ever felt strongly enough that i must write. Me & my wife stayed for here for two nights. The accomodation is clean, comfortable & functional, its a pub, not the Hilton so our expectations were met admirably on this. The food & the hospitality are absolutly A1. Top quality "GENUINE HOME COOKED" high class food.
A refreshing change to have good food as advertised & the chef should be given high credit fo quality of the meals . Staff & owners extremly welcoming with exellent service all round, nothing ever any trouble for them to help.
Very well kept beer cellar, exellent pint (or two). Such a wonderful change also to go into a pub that has no background music, no telly, no fruit machines & no pool table. A rare gem of a pub that needs none of the afore mentioned, the atmostphere, locals & welcoming feel is all that it needs. Very busy on both nights we stayed & staff coped brilliantly with maintaning service level, anyone who expects to go into a busy vibrant pub that cannot have the patience to wait a few minutes for a pint should stay at home anyway! I thouroughly recomend to anyone who wants a relaxing stay, good food & good beer & proper pub atmostphere, you must put this pub on your bucket list but at the very top. Anyone that wants to complain about everything in life & be tense should stay at home

Drove a bit of a way to this pub. You definitely need a car to visit. Unfriendly welcome. No smiles. No hello. No lime for my lager. Poor choice for sandwich fillings. Mostly cheese or plough mans. No ham. No chicken. No prawns. My bacon for my bacon and Brie ciabatta was microwaved, tough and dry. Unappetising to say the least. We won't bother again.

It is thankfully rare for us to have an off day but it does sound like this gentleman's sarnie was below par, We wish it was sent back as we would happily replace it at the time. We did run out of Lime cordial over the bank holiday but it is back in stock now. As for choice we have a wide and varied menu including 4 different sandwiches and we are always adaptable it you want to stray off the menu just ask. Local produce is our mantra so prawns are very rare unless we get the occasional local catch. We are as always sorry if you do not love the Trengilly and hope you try us again your second impressions will be much better than your first.

Visiting Trengilly and looking forward to a nice quiet lunch after a long walk, we entered the bar to be accosted by very vocal woman - perhaps Landlady or Barmaid - who was obviously getting organised for Mothers Day the following Sunday and gave us the benefit of her decisions, indirectly, in a loud and not to be ignored vocal episode. Obviously talking to the guy behind the bar, her voice was one that carried, to the extent it distracted you from your own conversation. Even when she went out to the kitchen to brief the chef, the penetrating voice kept going! She interrupted our conversation when making our menu choices to tell us that the steak sandwich was not an 8 oz as it was a misprint! With only 4 people in the bar, this was embarrassing! Having said that, the steak and caramelised onion sandwich was delicious but we couldn't wait to get away so no dessert or coffee, as we usually do. Pity as the food was good but customers generally like a friendly but discreet atmosphere!?

This place is signposted from the main road but is so remote you will start to wonder if you have got lost, but it is worth the detour. Pure unadulterated Cornish hospitality, great local beers and ciders, great local characters who always have time to talk and a kitchen turning out terrific genuine home made food. This place has a timeless ambiance that relaxes and charms it's visitors so that 10 minutes turns into an hour or more.
