The clouds were brooding, dark and ominous as we reached our destination in Falmouth. The fact that our intended choice, Amanzi Restaurant was empty at lunchtime spurred us on down the road to Oliver's. We'd hadn't eaten in either establishment before. The deluge arrived just as we reached the front door. Oliver's was packed, (this is a fair indicator of the quality of a place on the first visit) but we inquired about the availability of a table. To our delight and relief there was one left. We were saved! The rain bounced down outside as we took our seats. The proprietress was very welcoming and took our drinks order whilst we perused the dinnertime menu board. We decided to have the Cornish brie wrapped in Serrano ham to start. It was absolutely divine! The presentation was excellent and the balance of flavours was perfect. For our main course my wife opted for the fillet of cod and I had the chicken breast, which was outstanding. The two courses were just right; they filled us without making us feel stuffed and the price (including drinks) was very reasonable at £36. The rain had passed when we left and as we continued our pleasant afternoon wandering around the shops, we both agreed that (table availability permitting) we will eat at Oliver's the next time we are in Falmouth, which is the best endorsement I can give.
