“Invaded”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

My husband & I stayed at the Madeira hotel on an Alfa tour in Falmouth this year, apart from the Polish catering staff, the stay was terrible. The waitresses were very polite and helpful but the girl behind reception was totally unhelpful and would just shrug her shoulders at every enquirery. The Alfa lady coach driver Chris was the most rude I have ever encountered, even shouting at us through the coach window, she was constantly cleaning the coach and had no time at all for the passengers, she is clearly in the wrong occupation. The worst part was having to return to our room mid afternoon to find Mr,Price the manager along with another gentleman who I didnt recognise there. His excuse was he was inspecting the quality of the cleaners work, We felt very invaded, we were worried about leaving the room after that and will never travel with Alfa again.

Stayed at this Falmouth hotel recently on a 5 day break with Alfa Coach Holidays. Although it was a very long and tiring journey we were more than happy with the hotel. Our room was very pleasant and we had really good meals throughout our stay, including the lunch that we had on our free day. The staff were very pleasant and it was nice to see the manager around the hotel. It was our first trip with Alfa and so we didn't know what to expect. We had a really good driver, Ian, and we had two full days out which were enjoyable. Must admit though could quite easily miss out the gold/silver centre and the kingsley village. A trip to Truro would have been good. Now that we have experienced an Alfa coach holiday and one of their hotels we shall certainly try another.

Did an Alfa coach trip to Falmouth and stayed in the Madeira Hotel.
Can't fault the service, staff were helpful and charming, food was plentiful and of a good standard for the all in price we paid.
Beds were clean and comfortable, bathroom was large, and spotless and with a sea view to die for what could we complain about?
Oh well, will try and find something, would like the evening entertainment to be updated. We are not all over 90 you know!

Stayed with alpha and had a fantastic week.
Good food, Good service and fantastic staff. Really felt like a home from home.
Had a wonderful room but no real view not that it mattered as we were out most of the time.
Fantastic all in all and excellent value.
I did have my reservations reading one of the other reviews but i decided after reading it they either were after a freebie or had some kind of issues that couldn't be dealt with without calling a doctor. Should be cant dance.
Ignore other comments great value go on Alpha.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view. When you get there you will see why. Beautiful

We have just spent a week at the Madeira Hotel and would not go there again. We arrived at 8 15pm after a long journey from Nottingham and after checking in when we were given our room key and a card on which was the room number and the set time when we could go for our breakfast and dinner we were then immediately shown into the restaurant, with no time to wash our hands
After reading the times for our meals it said we could ask the waitress if we wanted to change the time so we asked. but she did not know what to do so we went to reception who said we could go earlier but may have to wait until other people were served .
It did not make any difference what time you went for meals you still had to wait could be 10mins before you got anything then up to another 20mins or more before you got the next course.
If you were going out on the coach for the day leaving at 9 30am you could be still waiting for your breakfast at 9am ,we were late leaving on our departure day because of having to wait for breakfast.
.3 days no cornflakes, 1 day ran out of white bread.
We are adults so do not need to be told when to eat.
Bedrooms need updating,Tiny TV ,No telephone in case of emergency,Tea and coffee facilities was replenished each day .
WE asked the best way to get to Pendennis Castle we were told one way but on our way back we found a shorter route which would have been better.
Long walk to town centre ,but there is a bus from outside the Falmouth Hotel every half hour.
.We travelled on a coach trip with Alfa.

From A and J.

We went to Falmouth with Alfa coach tours mainly because I was unable to drive due to some medication I was using so this type of break seemed like a good idea.
Though I am not a regular user of coach tours, I would expect the standard to be at the least reasonable, but I can sum the Madeira Hotel in Falmouth in a few words; third rate nursing home.
First the good points, the hotel is in a fantastic location and does not reflect the other hotels in the locality. Most of the staff were pleasant and tried their best in poor conditions.
The room we were allocated (see photo’s) was very small with a tiny window, the ceiling was at 45° for a third of the room and there was 15mm protrusions at either side of the window, just waiting for you to bang your head on them; I think you can guess what happened. The décor as with the rest of the hotel dated to the 1970’s, there were even blankets on the bed. I turned the top sheet back and found a large rip in the bottom sheet, this was changed but you know when you put a sheet on a bed that it is ripped so why try to get away with it? The furniture in the room was as dated as the décor, it was kept clean by the maid but then there was not much for her to do.
The food was a joke; the first night we arrived late we did not expect it to be up to much. On the second night it was roast beef so thin you could see through it. Then by the third night things went downhill in a big way. The meat was supposed to be gammon half of it was black and rancid, and it had been kept warm in an oven so long the ends curled up and met in the middle (imagine a gondola made of meat). From that point we ate out in town.
Breakfast was OK until our waitress went off ill; we were left sitting there for 20 minutes without anyone coming to the table while others were being served eating and leaving. Again we decided the better option was to eat out.
All of these problems we reported to the “head receptionist” she was the manager because he was on holiday, (wonder why he didn’t holiday in his own hotel) but all the complaints were met with a shrug of the shoulders, and nothing was done to rectify the problems.
We asked if we could move rooms as I had banged my head several times on the protrusions at the side of the window but was told by “Miss Charm” that the place was full, even though we had just passed someone checking out.
Entertainment was quite hit and miss, I think most of them would have been paid up early in a labour club in the 70’s. One chap was a singer/comedian but these days telling racist jokes seems very out of place , and he was very lucky not to have had anyone there who would take the matter further. But at least there was the high point of the evening with the bingo.
Some of the trips we went on with the coach were quite good, but when we expected a “full day” in St Ives we were surprise it took nearly 2 hours to cover a 45 minute trip so the driver could take us past all his old haunts being a local chap. We then got two and a half hours and had to be back on the coach so he could take us to a jewellery complex so that he could get his back hander from the people there. This process continued on all the trips, until we were fed up of hearing his voice telling us where he was born, where his son lived etc.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms to choose from
