“Excellent guest house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

From the moment we arrived at the Rathgowry we were made very welcome by Sharon. She and Mike run a splendid guest house. Our room was a decent size, spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The breakfasts are wholesome, well cooked and filling, with plenty of choice. The house is just two minutes walk from a lovely little beach, and an easy ten minutes walk in to town. If you are visiting Falmouth you would be hard pressed to find better value for money. The only downside is the rather crowded parking area to the front and side of the property, but as we left the car in place and walked everywhere this was not an issue for us. There is a bus service in to town from the beach road. Finally, nothing was too much trouble for Sharon and our very few requests were dealt with promptly. What more could you ask; we would happily stay here again. Paddy and Christine Stubbs

Room Tip: We booked very late due to a change of plans, and ended up in room 9 at the very top of the house. F...

We have just spent four nights at this hotel and cannot praise it enough!

The rooms were spotlessly tidy, cleaned daily and very homely. There are lots of little items in the room that give it the personal touch!

Consideration is given to visitors such as amble tea and coffee, there are biscuits etc in the room in case you fancy a snack!

The location is literally a minutes walk from Gyllingvase beach and the lovely beach bar, who could ask for more!

Recently stayed at the Rathgowry. I was a little sceptical having read the few negative reviews on Trip Advisor, but have to say that my fears were totally unfounded. My room was immaculately clean and very well presented. The furniture looked brand new and there was plenty of choice of drinks, including some delicious home made biscuits.
Breakfast was exceptional with a huge range of foods to suit just about anyone, and the owner was very helpful and totally charming.
The location of this guest house is great. Very close to the beach and within easy reach of the local amenities.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this place.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are available. Make sure you ask when booking.

I stayed with friends last year at the Rathgowry and came back for a short trip this may. The first thing I noticed was the fact that Sabine is not part of the Rathgowry anymore and with her the paintings she made and I loved had gone too, appart from one. The rooms are still very clean and the breakfast was good.John and his helper called Salvador really try to keep up the spirit and give their guest a good time. But it is noticable that Sabine is not there anymore her attention to detail i missed and it is like the house has lost its soul.

Room Tip: If your a couple room 4 is the best, lots of space and fantastic view.

Ater an amazing stay at a B & B the night before in Salisbury, we were disappointed in the Rathgowery. It was very old and outdated. The rooms were not well decorated and a little "cheesy." The towels were different colors, the shower was tiny, the bathroom door did not close and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The view from the balcony was nice as it overlooked the sea. Unfortunately, the Best Western across the road burned down two night before we arrived, so the roads were cordoned off and it was difficult to get in and out. For some, the view of a burned building may be off-putting. John, the owner was very nice and we felt bad for what was going to happen to his business due to the burned building. The breakfast was very good and John' helper, Salvador, was a remarkably close likeness to Manuel in Fawlty Towers! For the price it's a good value, but if your expectations are two stars or better, you'll probably be disappointed.

My wife and I stayed with our small baby for a week.

The room was clean, tidy and spacious. There was a wide range of breakfasts available (I recommend the Continental; which comprised a hard boiled egg, selection of cold meats, breads and cheeses and a croissant). The new bed was comfortable and there was a good variety of hot drinks available in our room.

We had a good view of the sea front, which was a short distance to walk. Overall, a very relaxed stay.

We stayed here and was pleasantly surprised. Loved the maritime theme in the room and all the attention to detail. Stunning view over the beach. John and Sabine ( the ownwers ) were very friendly and helpful. They genuinely wanted their guests to be happy and comfortable. That is quite a rarity these days. The location is perfect. Close to the beach, but a nice stroll into town. Good breakfasts and plently of extra coffee/tea. Sabine's paintings are amazing and tell many stories. I would not hesitate to stay here again as it was reasonably priced. The many good reviews here are well-deserved. Thanks to John and Sabine for a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the beach.
