Got a wild mushroom tart and was pretty ok and tasteful, then decided for a steak (even if I am very picky on steak coming from Florence where good steak is a religion....) and it was nice, chips served in a particular way, wine was argentinian...malbec (called Argento) not so great while shyraz+malbec ok. Service extremely efficient, nice and friendly, barman young and willing to impress. Atmospehre is familiar, noisy and joyful, a place where to go if in Chester (very close to Roman amphitheatre)

The positives; the dishes that didn't include steak we're delicious & the service was outstanding, probably the best attitude I've experienced from waiting on staff in a long, long time!

Unfortunately the downsides were the steaks.....2 of us (party of 4) had one & they were very poor, bearing in mind this place prides itself on being a 'grill' & a large part of the menu is steak! The beef was impossible to chew as it was full of what I can only describe as sinews. Having sent it back for a fresh one, the second attempt was very much the same, well cooked -medium rare- but full of stringy bits. Yuk. However, the waitress & manager (I assume) were very apologetic & removed it from our bill & also offered something different from the menu, so thumbs up for this as it was dealt with brilliantly.
The rest of the food was lovely though & id probably go back....I just wouldn't order steak!!

We ate here on Saturday night after the Races, a birthday celebration for my boyfriend, as a party of five we had one of the booths along the back wall and the atmosphere in the restaurant was buzzing, if a little noisy! Waiters were friendly and efficient for such a busy night.
Starters were all great, but with our Chateaubriand main there was a problem - the steak was grisly and had a lot of sinue - I'm not one for making a fuss, but on this occasion had to complain. This is the test of good service! The restaurant changed our meal for 2 fillets and although three of our diners had pretty much eaten their meals by the time ours arrived, we enjoyed the food as it really was good. On asking for the bill we were pleasantly surprised, as they'd discounted for the bad steak. In my opinion that is excellent customer service and made up for the disjointed situation... If you love steak, this is worth a visit!

This place was visited with a large group of us (30) after visiting chester races for the day, We knew it would be packed therefore we booked months in advance for 2nd sitting at 9.00pm.
Apart from delays in seating us due to previous party not leaving then the service from the staff was excellent evn though they were extremly busy in managing a hectic place.

Wine: Brilliant choice of an Argentian Malbec, For those who need any guidence to a good red wine then please have this free advise in not looking much further than an Argentian Malbec ...smooth supple warm berry taste, The south american wines will take some beating these days.

Starter: Rock Oysters (6) on a bed of salted ice with onion vinegar and tabasco to accompany on the side, Nice fresh...cracking choice in preperation for Steak.

Main:Fillet Steak with champ new potatoes and French green beans with shallotts.
Cannott critisize this one bit, Good cut of hereford fillet beef and perfectly cooked to medium rare, Champ potatoes were a refreshing change and the green beans were fresh crisp and supported and cooked with shallotts.

Desert: Spotted my favourite on the menu (Creme Brule') Kitchen had ran out :-(, so didn't order anything else which was fine.

Only bug bear: The shear noise of the place....
This is not a big restuarant and unfortunatly it's crammed tables in the place and the noise generated from the customers is somewhat deafening at times, Saying that our group would have contributed to it and it does help with the atmosphere.

Would I go back.....Answer YES definately
