Great location, full of character, cosy and very warm welcome, roaring fire and a great hearty breakfast x Stayed in haunted room 4, only discovered after check in! Great little find if a little noisy-just street noise, when windows are so original you just shouldn't expect a tight soundproof fit! Enjoyable Xmas shopping mini trip x

We called into Ye Olde Kings Head for a meal with friends on a night out in Chester. A lovely traditional pub and it was nice and warm inside with a real fire. The bar staff were very friendly and welcoming. This place had a lovely feel about it
We ordered food and the chef even took time to come and speak to us
The food was amazing, steak was cooked to perfection and the lovely fresh homemade soup was a favourite with our friends.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will make sure that we visit again soon
Highly recommend Ye Olde Kings Head whether it be just a drink, a meal out or even an overnight stay in Chester
Thank you for a fab time xx

My boyfriend and I stayed in room 2 for one night this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room, like the rest of the pub, is full of character with old beams, small doorways and wonky floors. It was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed.

We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar, we didn't eat there but the food smelt good and seemed very reasonably priced. Character and history oozes out of every corner of the place which I found to be cosy and welcoming.

The location of Ye Olde Kings Head is fantastic for exploring the city day and night. A minute or two from the city walls and river in one direction and two or three minutes from the rows and umpteen bars and restaurants in the other.

It was a great choice for us.

What a love establishment, paid for this as a surprise for my Mum, as she paid for a hotel for my sister Sally's Birthday,

Wasn't sure how to tell Mum, spoke to the lady behind the bar, and she done wonders " she said that I wanted Mum to see the experience of the Hotel, took us to the Room, and said "I paid for her to stay there, Mum was absolutely gob smacked,

We went for a drink in the bar, (what a lovely atmosphere).

We had a meal in the evening, (top class, 10 out of 10).

My ratings:

Hospitality 10 out of 10
Atmosphere in bar 10 out of 10
Food 100% plus
Staff 100% plus

If I could rate this Hotel, staff and overall Hospitality would be 100% plus, staff could not do more for you.

Had a lovely time:

I'm from Ireland, will return again, soonxxx

Thank you for making our time special xxx

Very friendly, informal and relaxing atmosphere. Room was comfortable and full of character with original beams. The en suite bathroom was newly refurbished to a very high standard. The food was excellent with beautiful, crisp homemade chips. The beer was good too. This is the perfect location for walking around the sights and was fantastic value. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Our stay at this hotel was so bad i dont know where to start...! This came as a complete shock as i had booked this hotel on the strength of previous tripadvisor reviews and rather embarassingly had treated friends to join us. I'll start with the only positive, the location is very central. Unfortunately even this has its drawbacks as due to the fact neither the window in our room or bathroom closed (no handle on it) the drunk folk of Chester kept us awake until 4am at this point we were close to sleeping in the car! Fortunately the weather was fairly mild however you would simply freeze in the winter months. At the time of booking it would have been curteous to have been told a live band would be playing until midnight, due to an early marathon start this would have certainly put us off as this was so loud the furniture in the room shook. The bedding in the room was dirty (mascara all over pillow cases), the mattress was so bad i would say 'unsleepable'. As i was rather unhappy i told two members of staff shortly after check in who agreed this was bad and would speak to the manager and get sorted, i had to chase this up until 9 pm queuing at the bar each time to finally be told the manager said there was nothing he could do. Dreadful Customer service. The shower temperature was luke warm at best and the power could generously be described as a dribble. For added annoyance the bathroom light did not work nor did the hair dryer. Overall this was a nightmare hotel that i will certainly never return to nor ever recommend. I find the positive reviews that i based my visit on a total mystery!?!

We are sorry to hear that you were unsatisfied with your recent stay with us, especially as our previous feedback reflects the high standards of cleanliness and customer service we maintain at our hotel.
As you rightly point out, we are located in the middle of Chester City centre, so therefore are unable to prevent inevitable noise disturbances from neighbouring establishments. This is especially the case with your stay falling on Saturday night when we expect there to be an increase in the amount of people out and about in the city.

The room in which you stayed only has one window in the bedroom and we are aware that sometimes the handle can be temperamental. We apologise that you were experiencing difficulties with this window during your stay and are looking to rectify this for future guests. As I am sure you can understand, our hotel is a Tudor property and therefore we are restricted as to the amount of changes we can make due to its listed building status. We did try to move you to another room, but unfortunately we were fully booked and did not have another room to move you to. Our handyman was also sent to your room to try and rectify any problems.

We did not have a band playing in the pub on the night of your stay. It was an Acoustic duo who finished their set just after 23:15. Again, being a city centre pub on a Saturday night, we would expect noise from downstairs but not to the extent that this would cause sleep disturbances. You had been made aware of the possibility of a band playing when you telephoned, but you actually told one of our staff that your child could sleep through anything as we were concerned about the noise disturbing your child.

Our laundry and bedding is industrially cleaned to a high standard by a private company. We have never had any negative feedback over this before and ensure that our guests bedding is changed on a daily basis. In this instance, we apologise if your pillow cases were not cleaned in accordance to the usual standard we enforce.

In our bathrooms, there are spotlights. Again, we apologise if one of the lights were not working but we do thoroughly check our rooms before guests arrive.

We are confident that we are able to deal with any problems that our guests have when they arise and take appropriate action to solve the problem. Again, our past feedback does highlight our status as extremely comfortable and our guests would happily return.

It is very unfortunate that you don't feel the same.

My wife and I arrived in Chester by train and just happened to call the pub. We were offered a great rate. The owner showed us our room and treated us wonderfully. Our room was fit for a king. We ate dinner in the pub, and received a dinner discount for staying in a room at the pub. The breakfast was excellent. We highly recommend this pub accommodations. Five star in my book!
