“Tired accommodation lacking that personal touch”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We have just stayed here & came back one day early although not necessarily all to do with the accommodation but it didn't help. The bedroom we stayed in badly needed decorated & just lacked that personal touch, the carpets look like they have been down for years & lights for no shade, although the room did have a fridge, the beds far too soft & we didn't like the fact that you have to walk through a busy bar to get to your rooms. I think the owners need to decide whether they are running a B & B or a bar but having both doesn't work. You had to jostle with what appear to be locals who seem to turn up here night after night & take up the heated area under the parasols. Breakfast was mediocre cereals, yoghurt, orange juice & full English which consisted of 2 bacon, 2 sausage, fried egg, baked beans, hash brown & plum tomato (tin) & toast, tea or coffee. The location was the best part of this b & b as only couple of mins on the number 53 bus into Chester city centre cost £3.60 single each. Chester is worth a visit as the architecture is lovely & as are the shops in the "rows". Probably wouldn't come back to visit Chester but if we did we would definitely stay elsewhere!

Room Tip: Try another B & B such as The Limes which is on the opposite corner to Bawns Lodge

We stayed for one night (sat) and had a room for 3 people. The cost was £85 including breakfast . The room had everything we needed and the breakfast was fine. It's about a 15 minute walk into Chester and it has a bar. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel welcome. What more do you need??

Stayed here in December for a weekend in Chester after seeing great reviews on Tripadvisor. I'm not sure if we got a bad room but I would not recommend staying here.
On arrival (walking through a busy bar), we were told our room had been swapped and were now in the one next to reception. The room was cold, the bed was creaky and squeaked. The curtains were old and dirty. The shower cubicle was tiny. The towels were hard. I did not enjoy staying here, especially as it was a base for getting ready for a wedding. At night we were also disturbed by guests at the bar, and people returning (loudly) from their nights out

On the plus side, the lady doing breakfast was very accommodating and took requests. Location to the city centre was also good.

On check out some older ladies were telling the staff how much they enjoyed their stay and were booking there next trip for the same room. Maybe we were just unlucky...

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor/next to reception are noisy

Popular with the locals I think, so very very very noisy at night. This is a Friday night and other nights may be better.
Room is average, decor of room is poor as no attention to detail. Bathroom excellently decorated in contrast. Good size tv though no BBC channels, so have they not paid the tv licence?
Breakfast still to come in the morning, I assume that will be fine.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs

This hotel is a lovely place to stay for visiting Chester. It is the second time we have stayed and i have no hesitation in recommending it. The bus stops regularly opposite hotel. We were there over easter weekend so walked into Chester (about 15 mins) The breakfast is plentiful + is served in the pleasant bar area which is well frequented in the afternoon + evenings by the locals.
The bedrooms are pleasant + clean.( we stayed in a just refurbished room, really nicely done) Fridge in room which was great for your own wine + any extra milk.
The shopping area of Hoole is opposite the hotel + has a few nice places to eat/ drink.
staff very friendly + efficient.

Room Tip: Had newly refurbished room on front of hotel (? room 3) Some road noise.

Just had two nights at The Bawn Lodge were we have stayed before. Hotel is situated close to Chester centre (within walking distance). Staff very friendly, full English breakfast freshly cooked to order, rooms have fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and TV. Hotel also has a private car park.

Great value for money and great service.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back of the hotel as it quieter as the hotel is situated on a main road.

Returned to Bawn Lodge for a second overnight stay in the past few months. Perfect location, welcoming and friendly staff, great cooked breakfast and bar food menu (the salmon and sauteed potatoes is highly recommended!) and lively bar area. Perhaps could do with a lick of paint in the bedrooms but overall a really enjoyable stay and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Room 6 (stayed in January) is above the kitchen so the chef can be heard whistling and singing to a...
