“Great Hotel, Super Location”
Reviewed December 29, 2009

My wife & I stayed here last August & really liked it so when our friends asked for ideas for a couple of days away over the Xmas we suggested The Mill. I can say that once again we were delighted with our stay, great bar (loads of real ale & cheap too) good bar food, Canneletto restaurant very good, pool & spa were great. Only 3 minutes walk into town, girls went shopping, boys did a walk around the city walls, and visited a few pubs! We ate at GALS on the second night, go there! It was very good value for money, top service and only 5 minutes from the hotel.

I stayed at the Mill for 4 months Mon-Fri and could not fault the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I had the same room most weeks but once or twice had others due to availability, they were equally clean and comfortable. The main restaurant was well presented and the food varied and delicious. The service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. My one regret is not going on one of the canal cruises (they did no fit in with my work schedule). I would definitely recommend this Hotel to anyone going to Chester. Easy access to City centre (on foot) also ample Free Parking at the Hotel which is alos a bonus. The pool, spa and Gym were ideal for relaxation after a hard day's work.

This felt like a chain hotel although it appears not to be in a chain. The welcome by reception was great- we arrived at 11am, and wanted to park - knowing we could not occupy our room until later. They were fine with that- so saved a few quid parking. The hotel does not look close to the city- but it is,,really close. We had a club room which was big. Very powerful shower. We used the pool area which looks very impressive.
The car park is small, but they do have a few extra bits not far away. We ate out on the night. The breakfast was a good buffet (the food was more than warm)

We were considering going to another hotel in Chester, until we read the previous reviews for The Mill Hotel which stated it was a very good place to stay, and found when we got to the hotel, we were not disappointed. We stayed for 3 nights on a B&B + 1 nights dinner basis. The staff are all so friendly, the hotel clean and the food great. We actually went out to a pizza restaurant for one night but having seen the food the following night wished we had stayed at the hotel to eat. The leisure centre was great although we only used the pool, (a previous review stated that the were no lockers, and they had to leave their clothes on a chair, this is not the case - there are lockers but they are accessible with a refundable £5 deposit) . We had a premier room on the top floor with a balcony (although in Nov it was not put to much use, but in the summer I would think it is lovely to sit at the table and watch the boats going up the canal. We would certainly go back to this hotel with no hesitation.

We stayed in room 435 from 10th to 12th Nov 2009. The free car park was a nightmare, it is very small, but was made even smaller due to scaffolding which covered the front of the hotel (this was being removed as we left).
We had a friendly greeting at reception, and all staff were very professional.
Our room was lovely, a nice big comfy bed, clean linen, free internet connection, kettle/iron/tv........all the usual bits n pieces. My only gripe was that the bath and sink were very slow to drain, and the mixer shower had a mind of its own! It was either boiling hot or freezing, it was a delicate operation to get the temperature just right!
Our room overlooked the main road which was a little noisy at night with traffic noise, but we kept the window shut anyway.
I would highly recommend the spa , it was fabulous. We were given a fluffy towel each, and there are lockers (£5 refundable deposit). The changing rooms were spotless, and had a stand-up tanning machine in the corner. The 60 foot pool was quiet when we went, but I imagine it can get very busy in summer. We relaxed in the jacuzzi, and there was also a steam room and sauna.
Breakfast was very tasty, there was a good choice of cereal and fruit. The cooked option consisted of bacon, sausages, hash browns, scrambled and fried egg, half tomatoes, but NO baked beans! The shame!
There are a couple of restaurants and a bar in the hotel, but we chose to eat out and had a meal in Bella Italia just inside the city wall. The portions were huge and tasted fab! I had the meatballs which were excellent.
The hotel is located about 3 mins walk from town which saves on taxis.

Booked to stay for a two nighter just b+b.Room was excellent, very spacious if a tad noisy due to some poor window joinery and double glazing, as we were situated over the bridge and next to the main road in to Chester.
We ate off the menu for the first night on one of the hotel specials and found the food excellent, along with the service.Excellent situated hotel just two mins walk into the centre itself, parking could be a bit tricky as stated.
Leisure facilities were a the highest order and were gratefully used to clear a dull head on the second morning.I liked the breakfast buffet idea, plenty of food and a good choice, the one gripe from me would be to change the plates, they were discoloured somewhat due to age and the dishwasher no doubt, and from my good lady she prefers her plates to be warm when hot food is placed on them.
But a definite recommend, and i would use this hotel again without hesitation.

We just stayed at the hotel for a relaxing break in a City never explored before although only on our doorstep. I'll post the negative bits first as there are'nt many - the parking is a logistical nightmare at this hotel and we only just got one, the car park is hit & miss, potholed and poorly planned. There's renovation work going on but that wont last forever. The rooms very confusing - we booked a club room and friends who came with us booked a premier, the rooms were identical! rooms 243 & 343 (one on top of the other) so we're confused if we were short changed or they were upgraded? One poster below stated they had a spa corner bath, chilled champagne and strawberrys in a premier - they told me a 'club' was one step below the champagne suite. I'd like an explanation for this as the club aint cheap. The spa and health club is fantastic, the staff were polite and courtious - very helpfull too. The restaurant staff were very clean and helpfull along with a fantastic breakfast to feed a king. Never dined here but there were a few deals worth considering that look good value. The room was spotless and cleaned everyday. The internet didn't work but hey-ho? The walk to the centre can be scary when dark - just turn RIGHT out of the hotel and you'll be fine. Would stay here again - when I see what the 'club' room is like!
