Our first time at the mill hotel Chester , and although we did not stay overnight , it looked very nice I booked the canal cruise evening meal for sixteen people for my husbands 50 Th. birthday and it didn't disappoint , we had a fabulous meal and every one agreed ( which is quite hard to please everyone ) so well done to the chef and staff and to the ladies who helped in the booking of it ,we would definitely return ... The captain of the boat was very good too very funny , the staff on the boat were very efficient and friendly ,so well done to all ..............

Just back from 2 nights in chester. Loved the location of the hotel. Was worried about our room as it was right by the lift facing onto the main road and although there was some noise it didn't disturb us. Room was very clean although a little dated. Would suggest you take your own hair dryer! Bath was too narrow and short and the toilet was in al alcove that you had to back into and the toilet roll dispenser was located above your head....... Very strange! From the moment we checked in all the staff were super friendly. Ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was outstanding and great value. Breakfast was buffet style and was ok but not the same standard as dinner. Also had dinner on the hotels barge. The service was amazing and the food was the same quality as the evening before in the restaurant. Had a few drinks in the hotel bar, great selection of drinks and food and a great buzz. Really enjoyed the barge trip and would go back again if I visited chester.

The 8of us all enjoyed our week-end stay here. Staff make great efforts, canal cruise was fun. Breakfast had average choices, but plenty. Minor niggle - no air-con, so had to leave window open but as we were at the front of the hotel, got the taxi dropping off noises.

Our first time at the Mill, but it won't be our last.

The room, location, facilities are excellent, made even better by the wonderful service.

We felt welcome immediately we walked in, every member of staff going out of their way to wish you good morning or gave a nice day.

We could not believe how the bar buzzed every night, felt like we were having a drink in our local, which is rarely the case in hotel bars. Jimmy was outstanding, as were the other bar staff.

The location is brilliant, a lovely stroll into city centre. Our room was spacious, spotless, the bed was so comfortable. We had a champagne room on the 5th floor, the balcony was a pleasant addition.

Our only criticism was breakfast. We appreciated that the hotel was very busy, the staff in the restaurant worked very hard, but a 15 minute wait was disappointing. However the apology and a good breakfast did make up for the delay. Do not be put off by that small matter, the Mill is superb in all other respects.

One final big plus for us was the free secure parking on site - don't lose that, it confirms that a trip to Chester should always mean staying at the Mill.

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms are girgeous

Excellent location and facilities. Great value for money and would recommend. We stayed mid week in a club class room. Unfortunately it faced the main road and traffic noises were very loud. We didn't need an alarm call as we're waken at 6:45 every morning with the passing traffic. That said the rooms are very large and spacious with flat screen television and free wi-fi. The rooms are a little dated and could do with a refurb. The bathroom although large was again dated with a stand in bath with a shower connected via the bath taps. The bath lotion and toilet tissue attached to the walls made the room clinical.
The heating is also an issue. As we could not open the window due to traffic noise the room got very warm.
Breakfast is acceptable and all staff were friendly and accommodating. The leisure facilities and the small Peppermill bar cannot be faulted. The main bar serves an excellent range of real ales and bar food but gets very busy. There is a resident's lounge but on the two occasions we visited at 9:30ish it was empty and in darkness. This is a shame as it could be a nice place if it had a small bar. I would definitely stay again but would be selective in choice of room, choosing a canal view room. It is excellent value for money but is a little tired and dated in places.

Stayed at this hotel for one night and found the service first class and friendly nothing was to much trouble and the car parking is very good and your car is kept in a secure compound next to the hotel and its free.
The hotel bedroom is very comfortable and fitted out with all the usual things and the WIFI access is excellent in the bedroom using wireless on my IPad and its free.
The full English breakfast in the restaurant is first class and you can have all kinds of items which is self service but it is all kept really hot and help is available by very attentive friendly staff if required but if you want a continental breakfast then once again many items are available and its all good quality as is the coffee.
I would certainly use this hotel again and would recommend it to everyone it's only about 5 mins walk from the town centre which is a bonus and restaurant and bar all offer first class food and service at reasonable prices if you want to dine in the hotel.

Room Tip: I would think all rooms would be good but perhaps ask for the main block not the annex

We were recommended to this hotel by two separate sets of friends (who didn't know each other by the way) and so decided to give the hotel a try for our mid-week break. Our break was for two nights which included breakfast, a bottle of wine in our room on arrival and dinner for one night. The hotel was well situated for the centre of Chester (being only 5-10 mins walk from the hotel). The room and bed were very comfortable, although our particular room was rather dusty in places (which is why I have marked it down a little). The room was very hot as has been noted in other reviews and is something which should be addressed for the future comfort of patrons. In the restaurant which was charming, the staff were excellent, the evening meal was good but the breakfast although having a wide choice of cereal, continental breakfast and cooked breakfast which was all very nice, the cooked breakfast we found was a bit rubbery as it had been sitting there for too long, probably fine if you are choosing your breakfast as they bring it all out. All in all though, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
