The hotel is in a good position and only a few minutes walk to the city centre. However, there were a few downsides. We arrived as a small group of 5 female friends, each having booked a single occupancy room. At registration we found the hotel had made a mistake and allocated two people to one room. This was changed and the guest went to her second room, let herself in with the key, only to find that it was already occupied by someone else. So two quite serious mistakes and absolutely no apology for the inconvenience.
At least two of our bedrooms that I was aware of had very badly stained carpets and I've included photos. The net curtain in my room was really creased and had not been ironed.
These things are so easy to rectify but really affect your first impressions of a hotel. The carpet should not have been passed as acceptable. Does the manager or housekeeper not check the state of the rooms?
We had hoped to have dinner on the advertised canal boat trip but this was not available as there were insufficient bookings.
The hotel food was good and overall these niggles did not spoil our break. Treatments in the Spa were very enjoyable and well worth it, especially after a hard day of retail therapy! Would I book there again - yes I probably would, in the hope that the hotel management have by then improved their customer service and cleaned or replaced the carpets.

Room Tip: No air con, so avoid rooms near the dual-carriageway (402) which are noisy if needing to open window...

Stayed at this hotel during the last weekend of May for a friends Hen weekend. It was group of 16 of us and we stayed in a mix of family and twin rooms.

Location is amazing, short walk into the city and is right on the river. The staff were friendly and helpful and very welcoming upon arrival, check in was quick and the reception staff were very welcoming.

The rooms we booked were a mix of Standard and Business Class, , overall the rooms were of a decent standard, some were a tad small and the decor was a little outdated. All rooms were ensuite with a decent sized bathroom which was well furnished, the only issue was the shower which wasn't very powerful and an issue to get warm.

The beds were comfortable and all rooms were well stocked with the things you need when relaxing in your room.

For the Friday evening we stayed at the hotel for the Dine and Dance in the Canaletto Restaurant. The evening cost £25 per person and included a 3 course meal and a post dinner disco until 1am. The food was fantastic and the service by the staff was supberb. The disco after was fun and I highly recommend it for a night out when you don't fancy walking in to the city centre or sorting out taxis.

On the Saturday we all seperated to do different activites, some of the group used the pool and sauna, while I went to the beauty spa for fish manicure and massage. We all very happy with the facilites and the staff I spoke to in the beauty spa were very helpful and friendly.

At night the hotel was mainly quiet. occassional noise was heard from groups to coming back from nights, some level of noise is to be expected and for the most part is wasn't too bad.

Breakfast was fairly average but there was a decent choice of cooked food and fruit and cereal. It was enjoyabel but the wait time for tables and food could be quite long.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, location is great for a city break and I would stay again for a spa break at some point in the future. I would also love to visit Chester again as it is a beautiful city.

Room Tip: Highly recommend booking the Business Class, wortht the extra money for a bigger room and better dec...

On arrival check in was straight forward, reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room (216) was lovely overlooking the canal. I was pleased to find a full size hairdryer instead of one of the travel ones. We booked in on the hotel "Dine and Dance" the food was amazing and a great night was had by all. We did not eat in the hotel bar but the food we saw looked lovely. Sunday morning was spent in the spa, easy access from our room over the connecting bridge. Parking was easy and plentiful, it was free to residents and you could park until 1pm on the day of check out at no extra cost. The hotel is in a great location for the train station, shops and attractions of Chester. I would stay at this hotel again if visiting Chester in the future.

I visited this hotel for a Spa weekend with the girls. On Friday night we had the hotel's Dine and Dance deal (£22 as we were staying there, £25 for non-residents) and we were impressed! An excellent 3 course meal with a variety of choice, even for the vegetarians in the group, served to us by professional, happy staff! Followed by a DJ playing current music to the classics and taking requests. We danced until the early hours! The morning was a delicious buffet breakfast (hot and cold) followed by a trip to the sauna and steam room with a stint in the jacuzzi! One of the group went for a fish pedicure and foot massage (£25) and was positively glowing. The location on the canal is just perfect for walking into the town and the rooms are ample, though some of our rooms were a litttle dated (though still clean and comfy) whilst others were quite modern. This is a lovely hotel that offers more than just the basics and provides a real treat for a weekend away.

Room Tip: One of our group had an executive room overlooking the canal that was perfect. Rooms on the 2nd floo...

This hotel is perched on either side of the canal with a covered bridge that connects the two halves. It is graded as 3 Star on most booking websites and I would say that this is an accurate description for the standard bedrooms, which I would agree with other reviewers, are in need of a bit of TLC. However generally the hotel is excellent value. It is only a short walk into Chester along the canal and the free car parking is useful (although the car park surface is very rough and uneven). We ate an evening meal in the Canaletto Restaurant, in a very pleasant setting and a more than acceptable meal at a reasonable price. The restaurant and reception staff where at all times helpful and attentive. The room was clean and tidy, but had limited draw space which would have been a nuisance had we been staying for more than one night. We did not use any of the spa facilities so cannot comment on those. I must admit that the bar did look a bit like a ‘Sports Bar’, as has been mentioned by other reviewers, but we did not actually venture into the bar so perhaps I am being too harsh. Chester is a wonderful City. We look time to visit the Cathedral, the Tudor timbered shopping arcades and to walk the walls, and would highly recommend all of these activities. If you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation which is in easy reach of the highlights of Chester then I would certainly recommend the Mill Hotel.

Ideally situated for City centre and shops, plenty of free car parking.
Check in was smooth and trouble free and could use parking facilities from 12 noon.
We had a double deluxe room which we found quite spacious and clean my wife thought the lighting could have better next to the mirror for getting ready.
All the staff where most helpful and the bar area busy with well priced drinks (not like most hotels).
The breakfast is buffet style and we found it very busy on Saturday morning and had to wait to be seated, some items are available on request so ordered mushrooms which took awhile to arrive, we also had to wait for bacon, Sundays breakfast was much smoother and we had no issues.
We did not use the pool or fitness faculties so can't comment on the standard but they looked quite good.
Our only issue with our sleep quality was caused by other guest who seem to think it was OK to make as much noise as they want in the hotel corridors having no consideration for other guests.
Overall we would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Chester and would conceder staying again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: We had a canal facing room which had no road noise.

Stayed here for one night room 310. The check in was simple and you pay on checkout. The room was small and bed is only a double, this was fine for one night. The room was clean with tea coffee and couple of packs of biscuits. We had no problem with noise and had a peaceful nights sleep. The hot breakfast buffet was bacon, sausage, beans, grilled tomatoes, hash browns, fried and scrambled eggs. Toast is manned so you don't have to make your which was nice. Tea and coffee served to your table. There was also cereals and cold juices. We ordered newspapers which were delivered to the room early. The staff were pleasant. Hotel was clean and I would return for the price £95 for 2 including breakfast and also plenty of free parking its a bargain.
