The hotel is in a good position and only a few minutes walk to the city centre. However, there were a few downsides. We arrived as a small group of 5 female friends, each having booked a single occupancy room. At registration we found the hotel had made a mistake and allocated two people to one room. This was changed and the guest went to her second room, let herself in with the key, only to find that it was already occupied by someone else. So two quite serious mistakes and absolutely no apology for the inconvenience.
At least two of our bedrooms that I was aware of had very badly stained carpets and I've included photos. The net curtain in my room was really creased and had not been ironed.
These things are so easy to rectify but really affect your first impressions of a hotel. The carpet should not have been passed as acceptable. Does the manager or housekeeper not check the state of the rooms?
We had hoped to have dinner on the advertised canal boat trip but this was not available as there were insufficient bookings.
The hotel food was good and overall these niggles did not spoil our break. Treatments in the Spa were very enjoyable and well worth it, especially after a hard day of retail therapy! Would I book there again - yes I probably would, in the hope that the hotel management have by then improved their customer service and cleaned or replaced the carpets.
