My husband visits the area on business frequently and we always stay at the Mill Hotel. We have stayed in every class of room offered.
On our last visit we were not happy with the room we had been allocated. It fell below the high standard we have come to expect of the Mill Hotel. We booked a 'Business Double' this time. We were allocated room 423. The room has a 4'6" double and a 3'0" single bed. As the double was a little small for double occupancy (my husband is 6'2") I attempted to sleep in the single bed but it was too uncomfortable. The mattress was totally worn out and a protruding plank of wood at the side of the bed base (hidden by the valance) caused bruising to my leg. The carpet was badly stained in many places. The bathroom was also not up to standard. The plastic shower curtain was not as clean as it should have been and there is mould in the grouting around the bath. I found it difficult to shower as the shower head is only 5'0" from the base of the bath due to the low ceiling. My husband found it impossible and had to take a bath instead. The following morning I was unable to find a socket to plug the hairdryer into. The hairdryer is fixed to the wall and the only socket within reach is located behind the heavy dressing table which needs to be pulled away from the wall to allow the socket to be reached. I reported the problems with the room to a chambermaid who helped me move the dressing table, She agreed that the room had problems. I also reported the problems to the hotel receptionist.
I fear this room may be offered to a couple with a small child. The single bed would, in my opinion, be dangerous for a child. As the mattress flattens the hidden wood at the side of the bed is very obtrusive and could easily cause injury. I am an adult and I banged my leg badly.
We have stayed at the Mill Hotel many times and will continue to do so. We thoroughly enjoy the excellent jazz band who perform in the friendly, local bar on Monday evenings. The pool, shared with a friendly, local membership club is excellent and always spotlessly clean. The hotel staff are very helpful and the meals both in the bar and the restaurant are usually very good. The hotel is within very easy walking distance of Chester city centre and the hotel has adequate free parking.

Room Tip: Avoid room 423.

Nice location overlooking the canal. A five minute stroll down the canal takes you to the city walls.
I found the room average, a little dated with facilities as you would expect. Staff were efficient and breakfast ticked all the boxes without providing anything out of the box.
The Mill Hotels main assets in my opinion are its facilities. You have free access to a members gym which is part of the complex. The Real Ale Bar, which features in good pub guides is also an unexpected attraction. Offering six hand pumped ales it provided a bar far superior to what you would expect from a hotel.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Mill Hotel. Location was ideal, staff at reception really friendly and helpful, breakfast was really good too!! The bar in the hotel was great, cheaper beer prices than the bars in Chester. Don't forget to pack your gym/swim kit as this is free to use to residents and looks lovely, we didn't use the facilities as the attraction of the bars and shops was too great lol. Will definitely return in the near future.

Room Tip: We booked double business but had a club room :-), booked directly through hotel website and had a b...

The hotel offers easy access to the city centre, just 3-mins along the canal. The room was good and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was OK-ish, excerpt the morning when the scrambled eggs were more like egg-soup. The evening meal that was a great disappointment: a funny kind of starter the was more like a fruit salad and a somewhat greasy selection of sides offered with the main course. When asked the hotel promptly provided new potatoes so a plus here.

Our Second stay at the Mill, the hotel enjoys a wonderful location with a good car park, situated on the canal side, just an easy walk into town, (left or right) we stayed in one of the balcony rooms in the main block, the room was pleasant but housekeeping lacked attention to detail, in what is presented as one of the better quality rooms, dust on the wardrobe upper shelf, unpleasant extractor fan in the bathroom, broken shaving light and an un-vacuumed carpet. All simple things that let down a very nice room. We might add at this point the mattresses are beginning to be a little tired and are not particularly comfortable. The dinning both in the bar (Steak and Ale pie) and the Main Restaurant (Rib Eye and Provencal sauce) was first rate. The quality and value for money was / is excellent. The Staff are attentive, very professional and welcoming. The Pool, though shallow, is very clean and well supervised, and a great asset to the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at The Mill and would return, it’s a shame about the minor niggles with respect to Housekeeping,

We stayed in this hotel lastnight, rooms very small but clean and need updating. Poor breakfast, it would be nice if staff at least acknowledged you, we paid £75 worst money I've ever spent on a hotel room. i know a lot of people that have used this hotel and have been pleased with it. I will never stay here again.

Room Tip: Maybe the spa is the good thing about this hotel, but we didn't get the chance To use it.

Just got back from a weekend break. The hotel is centrally located to Chester. The hotel itself has quirky rooms which seem to fit around the large iron Mill stabilisers. It has a good atmosphere and we ended up in the reception area each night drinking the night away with other hotel guests. I'd like to thank Maretta who always made a point of coming over for chat to ensure everything was ok for our party.
The food was excellent, plus we used the offer of £22 for a 3 course meal - couldn't of been served any better at a mitchelin starred resteraunt.
Just one point our room was above the bar, which carried on into the early hours so if you wanted to sleep before 2 am this would of been an issue.
I didn't get chance to experience the spa - but it looked really nice.
Will be going back, this time with hubby in tow:)

Room Tip: Probably above 2 nd floor - only due to the bar
