“Great bar average restaurant”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Church is a new Chester venue located in the City Centre with plenty of parking near by. It feels like a great young peoples bar although I am 60 and the decor and lay out really appealed. There is a great outside terrace which gives it quite a continental feel. My wife and I visited for Sunday lunch and were asked to choose a table (of which there were plenty available). Our order was taken at our table and drinks brought to us. Staff were very friendly. I ordered the roast beef which was described as served pink which was encouraging. Unfortunately, the beef was not pink as it appeared to have been kept warm, arriving at two thirty probably did not help. Roast potatoes were over cooked possibly suffering the same treatment. A reasonable wine selection and very reasonably priced. Oh, I forget to mention the starter which would have been unfair as my goats cheese tart with onion marmalade was really very good.

“Okay but nothing special”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Overall its okay, nothing special.

We called in during the afternoon to book a table for six mid week. On speaking to a member of staff they seemed very unsure if they had a table free, despite looking into a near empty diary. After a minute or two she said that there was a table.

We arrived mid week about 7.30pm. The atmosphere was very good and quite loud. If you want to go for a meal where you can chat at length this is not the place. However it suited us for or needs for this visit.

Ordering was straightforward. The staff were very good bringing drinks to the table. They had a good knowledge of the menu which was reassuring. We asked for a little more time for work out our order. This was not a problem with the staff. They returned five minutes later as agreed.

The food was not served together, there was about a five minute delay until we all had been served our food.

The food portions are on the smaller size but well cooked. We did not have any issues with the quality or taste.

Only one of the group had a pudding, they enjoyed it. So no major problems with the overall food.

On being served coffee a double espresso was served in a large coffee cup. The saucer was overflowing with spilt coffee. It was another member of staff who served us and she did not seem to be concerned.

Overall nothing special but okay. The overall cost was reasonable

Pros
Lively atmosphere, if you want it
Food tasted nice

Cons
Mixed level of service depending on staff who serve you
Food small portions

“Great food, shame about customer service!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Me and my 4 friends came for a meal after the races. The food was lovely and reasonably priced we had the race day set menu. The only let down was the customer service! When we finished our meal we felt abit rushed and were constantly asked if we wanted anything else. Upon booking we new we had to be off the table by a certain time it was 10 minutes before we had to leave the table when one of the staff came over and said that her manager has asked us to leave as we need the table now, ( there are much nicer ways of asking this!) such as ' ladies I'm sorry this table is needed now but your welcome to finish your drinks in the bar! It's a shame out first experience was abit of a let down!

“Fabulous Lunch!!”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

On our 1st visit, we were amazed by the conversion of the building absolutely beautiful, great space & well designed, also a lovely outside area. The staff were really approachable & friendly even having banter with my husband over his football shirt - the atmosphere was very relaxing. We had sandwiches & drinks, food was really tasty and not badly priced for the portion size would definitely recommend and will go back. Feel it would be a great place for a family get together or a works night out. Looking forward to returning :)

My team of 23 went for our last meal after being made redundant.
Maria our waitress couldn't have helped anymore.
All the staff were brilliant and had no problem with our singing!!!
The food was gorgeous and served in very original ways.
The atmosphere was lovely, with background music playing all the time.
The terrace is lovely and kept very clean.

All in all it was a lovely afternoon/evening.

Highly recommended. I will definitely be returning.
