“Friendly cafe, good coffee!”

This is a favourite spot for breakfast or lunch. If you have soup and a sandwich you will be set up for the rest of the day. Lovely friendly staff too.

“Lovely lunchtime setting”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

Was on a shopping trip to Chester with a friend and we decided to go for lunch before hitting the shops. We'd seen Marmalade on the Chester tweets hour and it always had good things written about it.

We both wanted a jacket potato as trying to cut down on bread at the moment and most of the lunchtime venues seem to be sandwich/pannini heavy! We were lucky when we arrived as a table had just become free and it was being cleaned, it was soon cleared up and the little vase of fresh flowers put back on the table.

There were a few soup specials on offer which sounded delicious, but went for a jacket potato with chilli and cheese. I ordered tea and my friend went for an old classic of dandelion and burdock! I got a pot of loose leaf tea and a sieve which was a nice change from the usual teabag you get.

Our potatoes arrived quickly and they were just lovely - oven cooked and a great size with lots of really nice home cooked chilli and a generous serving of cheese. It also had a very nice side salad and we were offered a choice of home made dressings to top it.

All in all a very lovely, tasty lunch with very friendly people. Will definitely make a return visit next time in Chester - and the breakfast looked amazing!

“Cute little cafe for lunch”

A good choice of homemade food. A lovely lunch deal with soup and a sandwich for £6.50. A great little pit stop and worth a visit.

“Fantastic little cafe with a great selection of gluten free dishes”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 via mobile

We visited Marmalade in Chester while we were away for the weekend, we had seen online that there was a good range of gluten free dishes to select from so we decided to go for breakfast. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming waitress as soon as we sat down we were given a menu for breakfast and we were told that virtually everything on the menu was available as a gluten free version, I was delighted as often when out and about its not always easy to find gluten free menus and they are often very limited. Marmalade also had a good selection of gluten free cakes, we even got some to take with us for the day, we were extremely impressed with this cafe and we will definitely be going back soon, the value for money was brilliant and the staff were lovely, the food was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!
