It's not actually hidden but suffers from the promotion given to the Cathederal. This is a visit not to be missed from the coffin high in the outside wall to the specacular interiors this church is full of history. The visit is free although can make a donation if you wish and the guides are incredibly informative and quite obviously thoroughly enjoying showing the visitors around.
Definitely one to put on your agenda when in Chester.

The ruins and the standing church are intriguing. The ruins go back centuries and are a photographer's dream, with the lights and shadows on the arches. Add to that the historical background of this church and it is a must see. The present church has its own history and importance to the city. Take the time to visit them both.

We were invited into the church by a very friendly volunteer who then personally took us around the interior and explained the history of this very interesting building to us. The church was the city's Cathedral in the 11th century but a large part was later demolished, leaving some extensive ruins in the grounds which are also well worth a visit.

This Church dates back to the 9th century - although it was heavily restored in Victorian times !
