Was really looking forward to this opening, however having tried it 3/4 times they need to get someone who can cook authentic tasting Caribbean food.
The ribs starter are nice tender ribs in a decent tasting sauce. Thought the salt fish & ackee was rather lacking in fish and tasted bland. Goat curry, the meat was not tender and also very fatty. Jerk chicken was simply a roasted chicken with a very light dusting of jerk seasoning on the skin, therefore tasted extremely bland. Chicken curry was more like a Chinese takeaway curry. The beef brown stew, whilst tasty, tasted more like a dish of scouse. The rice & peas, varies in quality from either being very wet or totally dried out.
Good Caribbean food is a delight and it would be fantastic for Chester if they got their act together with a chef who could cook it, rather than someone who appears to be experimenting from a cookbook. In the meantime it looks like more trips to Manchester to get authentic tasting Caribbean food.
