Oh dear. Why do they make the same mistake again. Booked an outside room and rang the lodge to confirm before booking - it was even written in the lodge diary - must have an outside room - and, for the second time were refused one. This was a complimentary stay for a poor visit last time. How do places like this stay open when they cannot do what they promise and what customers ask? I have to say Andy was brilliant but even he couldn't get us into an outside room.

Poor security with security door to the rooms not locked. Room spacious but in need of refurbishment. Bathroom small, shower only a trickle and placed so you could not stand under it, taps not identified hot or cold, shower gel dispenser on wall ripped into body when in shower, only one bedside light.

Food only just OK - over cooked chips (they were actually potato wedges, tough steak, minute portion of mushy peas, poor batter on fish.

Room Tip: Stay in an outside room - if you can manage to persuade them to let you into one.

My partner and I stayed here for one night and had a very enjoyable experience. All of the staff we met were polite and courteous including the woman that checked us in, the waiter in the restaurant and the women on breakfast duty. The room was spacious enough (rm 5) with a bathroom just across a small landing - don't fret the entire area is private with no access to other guests. The bed was very hard - but we like it that way - although I do think a new mattress is in order as a lot of springs were pinging. There was ample tea and coffe making facilities, a wardrobe with plenty of space and a flatscreen TV. The bathroom was quite large for a hotel with a bath over the shower. My only comment would be that it is an electric shower so although hot water was plentiful there isn't any power. Both rooms were clean as was the restaurant.

We ate in the restaurant and both had excellent meals at reasonable prices. I'm a vegetarian and it was nice to have a decent choice. There are only a few veggie dishes on the menu but they have about three vegetarian specials on the board in addition.

The continental breakfast was included and was more than adequate. It include toast with assorted jams/marmalade/cheeses, croissants/pain au chocolate, bagels, fresh fruit, yoghurts, many varieties of cereal, juices and tea and coffee.

The hotel is well located for Chester Park and Ride and has ample free parking and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It is a budget hotel - so have appropriate expectations and it will exceed them.

This was one of the advance rate bookings @ £21. We should have known better, that we would be put in the worst room in the place.
In the annex room 9. Small narrow room with the desk in the hallway to the room. Wardrobe blocking the archway, with 2/3rds of the access cut off into the bedroom area (see photo) why not ditch the wardrobe and put up a wall rail, who uses a wardrobe on an overnight stay, as long as there is enough room to hang up a coat or suit.
The dust on the beams above our bed was unbeliveable (again see photo). Could be dealt with, with a feather duster easily enough.
The water in the shower over the bath kept changing temperature during showering.
But the worst was to come... such an uncomfortable bed. Wooden frame and base with an old style thin mattress on it. My back ached for days after a night in that bed.
I agree with earlier reviewers that the noise in the annex is a problem. Can hear other occupants coughing, weeing, walking across the floorboards, their bathroom extractor fans working.
On the plus sides, the sheets were clean and the bathroom was clean. But the downsides outweigh the good and we wish we had just drove on home. We had stayed in Premier Inns the previous 4 nights and wish we had done so this night. Will not be lured by the £21 sale again!!!

Room Tip: From their website, the rooms look much bigger in the main building

Just got back from an overnight stay at the Cheshire Cat near Chester, lovely pub, cosy and very welcoming. Great food and very friendly staff. The bedroom was fairly spacious and had everything you could possibly need for a short break. The pub is set in a lovely setting, with a large outdoor eating/drinking area overlooking pleasant gardens and a canal.Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is very nice with lost of choice, staff are very friendly and helpfull. Will definately go back in the summer. Only paid £21 for nights stay as a special offer, was a bargain.

Have stayed here on 4 occasions now and have been impressed every time. The only small snag is the fact that it is attached to a very busy pub and it can get difficult to check in at busy times but the staff are excellent and the rooms are very clean and comfortable,There are also rooms in the converted stable block a short walk across the patio. Food in the pub is good. The price is per room and includes continental breakfast which is more than adequate. We will go back again soon.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms in the stable block however not as noisy as you may think in the main building

My husband chose steak,he had chips (lovely & chunky),peas, onion rings & a tomato,he said it was gorgeous but he should of chose a sauce to go with it!
I chose chicken stuffed with cheese wrapped in parma ham & a gorgeous jus, i cant remember what kind it was but it was delish! also with chunky chips.

We booked The Cheshire Cat for a one night mid week stay to celebrate my birthday. We arrived at about 3.30pm and were booked in by a very informative young man who booked us our table for evening meal and having told him we were about to walk along the canal which runs alongside the hotel, gave us tips on where to stop off for a drink.

It was a cold February afternoon but the sun was shining and the walk took us into Chester along the canal, we had a drink at a pub,The Harkers and walked back.

We had booked a table for 7.30pm, when we entered the restaurant we were welcomed and shown to our table. The food was excellent and so was the service. The waitress was attentive and the room with its log fire and candles, made an warm and comfortable evening.

Our room was in the annexe and although it was small it was sufficient for our overnight stay. It was clean and comfortable. Next morning we had a continental breakfast, there was fruit juices, cereals, bread, pastries, bagels, jams, marmite, cheese etc A waitress served us tea and coffee.

We paid £55 bed and breakfast and had a voucher which gave us 25% off our evening meal - excellent value for money!

Will be visiting again - we also walked the canal up to waverton and went into Chester on the 2nd day - great shopping and cultural city.
