Lovely clean hotel , central to all in chester. The room was great with its four poster bed . Brilliant !! Make sure you try different ales , as the hotel has its own micro brewery. Breakfast was very tasty and if you need anything just ask ..

Room Tip: Phone and ask

Charmless receptionist, barman and breakfast waitress. Room ok but bathroom appalling, room 11. Don't expect a friendly greeting except for the student working here who was the only smiling face in the place. Breakfast times for a weekend were a joke, all over by 9 am. Felt like they just wanted you out. Beer expensive. Yes you have a great location but you are missing the opportunity to have a great hotel as well. Spruce the place up a bit and practice smiling. Guests rarely return to a cold unwelcoming hotel lacking any customer service skills. This could be a great place to stay what a pity.

Room Tip: Book another hotel Chester is full of them

we stayed two nights at the Pied Bull Inn. A lovely old pub with lots of history. The staff are very friendly. The room (no 8) was small but as the pub is so old it was in keeping with the character of the pub. Very small TV, so if you like to watch it daily that may be a problem. If your out and about though don't think it would be a problem. There was the normal tea/coffee tray, would have been a nice touch to have a couple of packets of biscuits but that could just be what makes me happy :) The bathroom was a bit of a let down. Simple things like paint splatters on the floor, plugs missing, a bad grouting job and the shower not even high enough to let a 5 ft me under. We paid £80 so wouldn't have expected these problems. The first night we had dinner in the pub and both thought it was great. The also have their own micro brewery which is nice. The pub is 30 seconds away from the bus station/cathedral and a host of shops and history. This is great but on the down side there was a bit noise at night. We stayed a Monday and Tuesday night and have to say the Monday after 12am was very noisy. Some happy people making their way home, then a bit later the bin men and then the beer delivery men as well as the air con unit not far from the window. This may have just been bad luck and I am a light sleeper. The Tuesday night was much quieter. Breakfast was cereal and variations of a full English. All in all a nice stay but let down mainly by the bathroom and a bit of noise. There are lots of places to stay in Chester so if your deep sleeper and try one of the other rooms it may be to your liking.

Room Tip: No 8 - adequate double bed. It may be haunted.

we stayed in chester just for one night and found a late deal for the pied bull. room was great, a little slanted with old furniture but all added to the character! found out the next morning our room was haunted too!
Breakfast was great and staff all really friendly!
pub downstairs was noisy but this didnt bother us...book into a pub - expect a little noise! were woken a few times in the night as our room faced the alley way/side street by some rowdy drunks but this was well after the bar downstairs had closed so nothing to do with them!
All in all would definatley stay here again if in chester :)

Was staying in chester for the Sealed Knot's display on the 10th-11th August, went to some pub near tesco as was told it was a real ale pub, that they were not. Got given a list of 6 better pubs to try out by one of the customers.

The Sitting bull bitter uses american and new zealand hops, made in the on site micro brewery, an intense hoppy flavour and have not tasted as good for a long time.

Did not try the food, but looked appetising :)
Friendly staff and beer cheaper than I usually pay all helps

Was camping at the racecourse, so did not use the rooms :)

spent a weekend in Chester to see the zoo and have a break.
Got a late deal on the large front room here which was supposed to be haunted, found the room very dark, nothing was level and full of very old furniture and creaking floorboards.
Needless to say it was perfect.
So much history in the building it was an amazing place to stay.
had breakfast and evening meal there and had a good time in the pub.
Will come back when were in Chester.
