“Fabulous food at great prices”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Southern Indian food is hard to find in the North West and Koconut Grove offers a great alternative to the more standard curry house fare. Located at the southern end of City Road, it has parking in the evening which is a great advantage (though we didn't realise until we'd already parked a long way away). The place is clean, entirely non-Indian in its decor and the staff are polite and helpful.

We went with a GroupOn voucher which offered two meals for a tiny £14 - total value of what we had would have been about £30 and even at full price it would have been fantastic value.
There's an extensive English menu as well as the South Indian and Indian favourites but you'll not find too many of the more standard dishes here. There's no pressure to order more than you want, and everything is served elegantly and at a good pace.

We had the Karnataka prawn madala and the Keral fish curry as well as a couple of starters which were interesting but less impressive. Rice and nan portions are easily enough for two people and the prices are surprisingly low.

We would definitely plan to go back

“different Indian Food!”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

We had looked for a new Indian restaurant and decided to check this one out. We're very glad we
did. The service was good, unobtrusive. The setting attractive and the food excellent. You can choose some Indian restaurant staples but we didn't, we made sure we were trying new things and we weren't disappointed. Particularly good was the paneer with chilli stir fried starter and the Okra, which is actually on the vegetable side dishes but we had this as a starter. The Dosa was also excellent and certainly new to us. For main courses we really enjoyed the lamb flavoured with fennel and the lentil with spinach. We decided on desserts as well just to try but for us all too too sweet, which is normal for me with Indian sweet meats, but at least they were different, carrot Halva and a sweet lentil something or other. The Cheese cake was bought in with squirty cream and not great but the others were interesting and worth a try.

“Authentic South Indian cuisine”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

This is the first authentic South Indian restaurant in Chester which serves delicious freshly cooked meals. The aromatic flavour of spices and herbs and the taste of every dish reminded us of our days in India. The staff at the Koconut Grove are very friendly and welcoming..Everytime we have visited this restaurant we have always found the service to be very individualised and efficient. We have been to this restaurant many times and will return again........... very pleased to have Koconut Grove in Chester.

“excellent South Indian style restaurant”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

We were staying at the Premier Inn,City Road ,Chester which is next door to this restaurant so decided to eat there one evening during our holiday.
It was later in the evening when we arrived but were made most welcome, even though it was quite late on a Wednesday evening there were several groups of diners in the restaurant which helped to create an atmosphere.
The prices were competitive, with the young waitress being knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful particularly as the specialty of this restaurant is the 'Dosa' and despite considering ourselves to be curry experts this was something we hadn't tried before. However, we were not disappointed at all for these 'pancake' type wraps are delicious and very filling,we asked for ours to be Madras hot,and we were not disappointed again.

I would highly recommend this restaurant as a new jewel in Chester's crown.

“Superb Authentic Indian Food - best in North West?”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

As a lover of fine Indian food there are only a handful of great restaurants in the North West - let alone Chester. Included would be Seven Spices in Cheadle Hulme ,Raj Dut Manchester and Jai Katmhandu Northenden - so what a surprise to find this gem in Chester.
The Southern Indian specialities are superb - and the dosas - filled crispy pancakes, are a revalation. The restaurant also provides the standard 'curry house' fare for those feeling less adventurous.
Prices are reasonable - atmosphere is cool and relaxing - four of us had a selection of dishes - strting with sharing dosas, ranks with top London restaurants. Hope it stays and flourishes - it deserves to!!
