Lovely hotel, fabulous grounds (especially the Japanese garden), great food & super friendly staff.
We stayed in the refurbished section of the hotel, which we found very pleasant, nicely decorated with a modern bathroom & a brilliant view of the Japanese gardens.
We ate at Nelson's, where again the staff were friendly and the food was good. The breakfast was also plentiful and well maintained.
From check-in to check-out, we had no issues and encountered many pleasant staff that were happy to give their time. If we were in the area again, we would definitely re-visit.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 60 (newly refurbished with a great view of the Japanese Gardens)

Have just had couple of nights here as a surprise from my husband for a significant birthday. All in all a really good experience. Our executive room was extremely comfortable although quite warm. As mentioned previously the air conditioning doesn't seem to work too well. Nice toiletries and lovely soft towels. We ate in Nelson's bar both nights which we really enjoyed. Thought the menu in Ciro's a bit pricey. The weather was good while we were there and the gardens are beautiful so never got to use the spa as it seemed a shame to go inside. We did have a look at the Japanese garden which was delightful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

We stayed overnight after my son's wedding. The hotel and service were second to none and I enjoyed the stay immensely. Our room overlooked a small enclosed courtyard and was very well appointed and extremely comfortable. The wedding was well organised and ran smoothly and without a hitch. The grounds provide a perfect setting. I also loved the Japanese garden.

We had a really nice break here, to enable us to go horse racing at Chester, explore the town, and have a day in North Wales. We paid using British Airways airmiles, so this was a better class hotel than the ones we normally stay in. The staff were very good, they relocated us to a better room after our first night was disturbed by an elderly guest. Nelson's bar was good, for bar meals or a drink, Clio's restaurant was expensive but very stylish and the Spa was excellent. The hotel gardens were beautiful especially on a sunny afternoon.

Had planned this weekend for our friends special birthday about 6months ago.
We were greeted warmly by the staff even though it was Father's Day and very busy.
All our rooms were exceptional , beautifully decorated . The whole place is inviting. We had a really nice meal and the waiting staff were very attentive.
The next morning after a good breakfast we all went for our spa day. This again was more than we expected, staff really helpful and pleasant. Treatments first class. The spa gardens and spa area very calming none of us wanted the day to finish.
Would highly recommend everything about this spa hotel.

This was one of those quickly booked up weekends away without too much planning or thought. In fact we had struggled to get in anywhere due to a big weekend of racing at Oulton Park and were relieved to find a room to stay in.
Pulling up it didn't look that promising ,with a wedding in full flow ,packed car park and swillers and smokers loitering everywhere. But round the corner ,the entrance to the main hotel looked far more promising, and indeed from then on everything was a delight.
The rooms were lovely, ours had a quaint spiral stairway up from a sitting area to the bedroom and swish bathroom. The open views were gorgeous, conservatories overflowed with plants in full bloom, delightful fountains flowed .The restaurant was beautiful and had a lovelybalance of attentive but discrete service. The Spa facilities were superb, the pool was Romanesque yet big enough to have a really decent swim and outside there was a beautiful Japanese garden to wander in . All in all we were unexpectedly thrilled with our stay and would like to thank the staff who were unfailingly helpful and pleasant. If there was one gripe to balance out a glowing recview, it would be that the restaurant is a victim of its own success and on the Saturday was packed to capacity and service a bit slow due to the huge demand.

Room Tip: Open views at the back were gorgeous. If your room has a quirky spiral staircase it wouldn't b...

We had a late lunch at the Nelson bistro within the hotel. The Staff and Service were good. We had two of the Nelson's burgers and the Salmon Nicosia. The Salmon was lovely but a bit small. The price was fairly reasonable with two rounds of drinks on top. Overall, a nice relaxed meal.
