After booking on last minute and covering 350 down from Scotland on my Ducati this was the best treat we could have expected in all my travels. Superb ambiance, spa, gardens and foods were gorgeous .booking again most definite!

As we sat in busy Friday evening traffic on the M62 I started to wondered if I had made the right choice to stay near Chester to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary - when we arrived I knew we had! The staff were so friendly and helpful during our stay. In particular - Marrius who served us in the evening and the gentleman on reception (so I did not catch his name).
The room was gorgeous and bed very comfortable and we had a great view of the stunning garden from our window. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and really enjoyed the food. I would recommend this place to anyone, the only complaint I had is that we only booked one night :)
It is very hard to get a 5 rating (particularly from me), but I was like to leave a few constructive comments on how this could improve. They are very minor things .... a folding luggage stand in the bedroom would be helpful (we were in a room with spiral stairs) and perhaps a blind (in addition to the curtains) for the velux window as it got light quite early. Some of the signage was a little confusing - maybe a map would be useful (but that might just be me) and finally whilst we really enjoyed the food, a couple of extra vegetarian main courses would be nice .... for when we come back!
We purchased a voucher for our stay and got a deal with a free bottle of wine (I think it was about £60), to be honest I have stayed in a lot worse places for twice the price. The gardens are stunning and peaceful. A perfect first anniversary.

Room Tip: Let them know in advance if you have mobility issues - we loved our room with spiral stair but know...

If you're looking for a chill out weekend break then look no further as this hotel has it all.
A perfect base for visiting the beautiful city of Chester and just an hours drive to the North Wales Coast in one direction or the Welsh/ Shropshire border towns in another.
The staff here make the stay very special, reception are efficient, friendly and helpful. Bar and wait staff always have a smile for you and service is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble.
I have never had a bad meal here, Nelsons bar lounge have an extensive menu offering fayre from a sandwich or wrap to a full meal. All the food is home-made and well presented....be aware that whatever you order there will be plenty of it! I didn't dine in Ciro's Brasserie but heard first class comments about both the food and ambience in there.
The breakfast buffet is one of the best l have had and l stay in many fine establishments. The choice again was extensive with everthing one could wish for. Perfectly cooked and replenished frequently. If you are feeling lazy then the hotel will serve breakfast in room for a £5 service charge.
On the two occasions l have stayed here it has been in an executive room. Very spacious with the added little touches that appear to be missing even in some five star hotels, such as a full length mirror, a decent dressing table with plenty of light and a hairdryer that is not attached to the drawer underneath! Comfortable king bed with bedside lights that actually work and can be controlled bedside! Bathroom was modern, impeccably clean, well stocked and offered various products from the in house Kasia spa. I had rooms overlooking the Japanese style gardens and the glorious welsh hills.....another advantage here was that l could open the windows.
The hospitality tray in room is also one of the best l have seen with plenty of tea, coffee and milk together with biscuits.
Closets are not overly big but more than adequate for a weekend stay. Extra pillows and duvet are placed in there and also a fan for the hotter evenings. A mini ironing board and iron is also in room attached to the trouser press.
I had two treatments in the spa, a facial and a luxury manicure, both excellent and highly recommended as I found it very very relaxing....staff are well trained.
So to other bits......all rooms are non smoking but for those who indulge there are plenty of areas around the hotel to do so. They also allow dogs although l am yet to try this one out!
I can always have a nit pick with places that l stay, but on this occasion l am struggling!!

Room Tip: Book on line and then call the hotel direct to see if they can upgrade.....they will if they can and...

Stayed here a few times, would recommend to anyone. If going out on the town watch the taxi pricing! I was charged £14 on the way in to Chester but then charged £21 on return with the same taxi company (Abby Taxis).

Booked this hotel for partner's birthday and it was a wonderful stay.
One of our favourites as we have tried a few hotels in and around Chester. This was the most pleasant and relaxing.
Hotel was clean and comfortable and the roman themed decor was beautiful.
Reception staff were very helpful and informative. Spa and breakfast staff slightly less so, but no major complaint.
The Japanese themed gardens were stunning, and the spa was also wonderful.
Felt the spa could do with a facelift, e.g. repair lighting, paint, etc. but all in all it was a lovely experience. The roman themed decor carried on into the pool area which was great.
Booked a spa treatment for partner which was OK but he didn't enjoy it as much as hoped as the back massage was too firm.
Entrance to spa was lovely with insence and calming music.
Food in Nelson's was a little over-priced we felt, but enojyable. Breakfast in the Brasserie was of average quality, but plentiful.
The room was lovely and faced the gardens so we had a beautiful view. Bathroom contemporary and very clean.
Location convenient for Chester's park and ride.

Room Tip: Ground floor facing gardens is beautiful.

Had a free night here with Sheilas wheels. Our room was tastefully decorated and very clean with lovely views over the japanese style gardens. It was a tad small as was the bathroom with only one shelf for the lovely complimentary toiletries, glasses and our soap bag. Also the wash hand basin was cracked and one window seemed steamed up like the seal had broken.
We used the pool and that area was very nice with a spa, steam room and sauna, changing rooms a bit small but nice to be given a free locker and towel.
Had a nice meal in Nelsons, good value although we thought the wine a bit pricey at £18.00.
It was a bit embarrasing to walk back from the spa area with wet hair as others were enjoying a cavery for fathers day but there was no other way back to our room.
All staff very pleasant and helpful.
The major downside for me was the annoying mosquito type flies in both Nelsons and the Ladies loos, I can only think it is because of the amount of water outside, luckily there were none in our room. It did rather spoil our meal.

Stayed here with a friend for a pamper break for my birthday and had a fantastic time.

Had a couple of 'blips' upon arrival, namely sent to a room which was still dirty from last occupants, reception genuinely apologetic and gave us complimentary drinks in the bar while the room was prepared. The drink came, and the bottle was out of date, again went to reception who couldn't have apologised enough and gave us a box of chocolates to enjoy whilst there. Problems can occur in any hotel, but it is how they are dealt with that is the mark of a very good hotel, and they were certainly dealt with swiftly and professionally here.

We had a deluxe room on the top floor, it had a lounge area downstairs then a spiral staircase up to the bedroom - people with mobility problems may struggle with this. The room was well decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable beds. Only negative, there is a courtyard underneath one of the windows where people are allowed to smoke so once or twice the smell did drift into the bedroom. Luckily there was another window looking out onto the garden side of the hotel.

Food in the bar was very good quality, dinner in the restaurant was a Sunday carvery with an excellent choice of meats and vegetables. Breakfast had the usual selections of fruits, cereals, and cooked breakfast. The spa luch was superb.

The spa was teriffic, excellent choice of treatments, very friendly and professional staff, wonderful chill out rooms, lovely outdoor garden area, couldn't recommend it enough.

Service in the hotel was second to none, nothing too much trouble, and very friendly staff. The hotel is an unusual concept, a mix of pub and hotel with rooms, but this quirkiness didn't detract - in fact it added to a very relaxed atmosphere.

We will definitely be returning to this hotel for another girls pamper break, excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to one of the upgraded superior rooms, they are gorgeous, the staircase in some of th...
