I asked for a vodka and lemonade, the lemonade was flat as a pancake. I asked for a vodka and coke instead - to be told that their was no coke / pepsi available. There was no apology / regret from the staff. We were even charged for the drink - which tasted awful!! Not friendly. Felt all they wanted was the "big" drinkers spending lots of money. We were a large group - many of us unhappy with the service offered and we moved on. Drinks were also very expensive. I definitely would not recommend.

Lovely situation by the canal towpath.

Good selection of beers and wines but not cheap.

Food on the other hand was excellent value and well cooked and well presented.

A good meeting point.

I remember this as the Frog & Nightingale. It's since been refurbished, the beer is expensive and the choice of menu is very limited. The food was also average. In its favour the staff were very accommodating and the location by the side of the canal is nice

Popped in for early dinner after seeing it from the road as we were driving around. It was in a beautiful setting by the canal. The main menu was a but pricey but there was a two course special on with a choice of 3 starters and three mains and glass wine for £9-95 per person. We had thai fishcakes with salad and sweet chilli sauce and although they were mass produced not handmade
they were really delicious. Salad was lovely and fresh and it was served on a piece of slate. We had fish and chips with mushy peas for main. Beautiful hand battered peice of fish on bed of hand cut chunky chips and a small portion thick minted mushy peas served on a wooden platter. It was beautifully presented, beautifully cooked and filling without being too much. We swapped the wine for a pint of one of their real ales. Amazing will go back again. This special is not available weekends but whether it was because it was early and quiet Sunday evening or because it didn't say so on any of the signs they made an exception and allowed us to have it. Staff were effecient and professional. There was music which was very loud and we had to shout to order at the bar but we managed to find a slightly quieter spot inside. Outside there were tables alonside the lock. A lovely sunny spot for an evening drink. Next time we visit Chester will be popping in again.
