Lovely museum with well presented artifacts. Lots of information to read and look at. I particularly liked the Roman section of the museum. This is a free museum.

Grosvenor park is well worth the walk up from the river Dee, or indeed down to the Dee if you come from Chester centre. Nice little play area for children, and by the lake is the miniature railway that runs around it (late spring/summer only). Plenty of space to play ball games and lovely gardens to enjoy

If the weather isn't too good then this museum should definitely be on your visit list.....it's free and has some wonderful exhibits and special events for all the family. Chester Military Museum is also just down the road by the castle, so on days when the weather is not particularly nice, visits are well worth it.

I was quite impressed by this museum, especially the Roman section. It used good materials and labelled them well. I spent quite a lot of time reading the epigraphic materials. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I shall certainly bring my undergraduates here and recommend it to others leading organised trips. Book ahead for groups though. It was overrun with schoolchildren on the rainy afternoon when I visited.

An impressive history museum near the centre of Chester with no admission fee. Don't miss the Period House and the shop at the rear of the building. Great for adults and children alike.
