Amazed to read that anyone can be disappointed with this restaurant, all about opinions of course.
First time visitor last night and the service, surroundings and more importantly the food were fantastic.
Without doubt the best Indian food I've tasted, it was a pleasure believe me.

this was our first visit to this restaurant which we've been meaning to visit for some time but somehow hadn't. Anyhow we are unlikely to go back with so many other better (and cheaper) options for good Indian food in Chester. They seem to have lost there alcohol licence as well as it was certainly a 'champagne bar' and Indian previously and we were informed on arrival that they had been 'advised' not to sell alcohol. The food was in small meat portions to a lot of sauce and the paneer dishes fairly bland. Much much better elsewhere.

Last time I ate in Barton Rouge it was great - however a year on and I am very disappointed.

The staff all looked tired and if they couldn't be bothered.

We ordered poppadom dips, curries etc .... When the dips came out there was a pubic hair on the sode of the dip bowls - when pointed out all they did was change the dips.

No reason no real apology given.

Living in India for 2 years when I first went to Barton Rouge it reminded of the local dishes - now it has become like all other English Indians and the shieea curry I had tasted powdery.

Such a shame and for £58 for two it is not the cheapest - maybe we paid extra for the special addition at the start of the meal -we will not be going here again.

Came here for a hangover cure/couples dinner the day following a lovely wedding in Chester.

We had booked the table over the phone and on arrival were told they weren't serving alcohol. No reason was given and there was an off license literally 2 seconds around the corner so not an issue but would have been nice to know in advance.

Ordered the sharing starter between us which was fantastic! Shish kebab, lamb and chicken tikka, some form of deep fried chicken and what I think was stuffed paratha. Great starter and so tasty!!

Mains we shared a rice, good size for 2, peshwari naan and the Malaya chicken and moglai lamb tikka. Both were very tasty, Malaya was the better of the two, but VERY mild (and I REALLY don't have a tolerance to spice) so maybe ask for some extra kick or choose something else if your looking for some heat.

Service was phenomenal with uber attentive staff always looking for problems or requests from tables despite the restaurant being chocka! The only criticism would be that it was quite hot... Despite the very large windows being wide open. All round though a great meal out!!!

Having booked a table a week in advance for my daughters 21 st birthday we turned up to be told that they couldn't serve us alcohol because they didn't have the licence and was told we could bring are own , but would have to go down to the local off licence to get are own wine and beer , which on the hottest nite of the year was out of order. We then sat down and orders soft drinks and water which never came so we had to order again ,,,, the staff seemed tobe disorganised cos they came up to us several different times to take are order , the main grievance was that on the hottest day of the year there was no air con in the building and when questioned the waiter said it was because some one had asked for a window tobe opened ,,,,, a very poor excuse !!!! On paying the bill we were not even asked if we enjoyed the meal which was unexceptible, we felt it it reined are nite totals and the staff dindit seen to care wot so ever, so we will not be returning or recommending it to any off are friends ,,,, very very porr indeed ,,,
