“Kids thought it was great but they weren't paying!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

The kids definitely enjoyed it but they didn't have to pay. It was very expensive and once you got inside they seemed overly keen in making you part with more money. For instance they offer to take your picture when you arrive for purchase later which was not a good welcome. Even if you did like the picture idea the backdrop they were taking them in front of meant you could have been anywhere!

There is a monorail round the site but guess what it costs extra. You can't do a round trip so in order to go round the whole thing as a family of 4 would cost £14!

Food was expensive too. I know you expect that kind of thing in this type of attraction but found it excessively expensive so much so kids had lunch we didn't!

Having said all this kids did enjoy it especially the dinosaur bit.

“We're all going to the Zoo ... again”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Took the advantage to have a couple of late summer days away, just as the kids, or most of them had gone back to school. Decided on Chester zoo. Two main reasons, both driven by a 4 year old boy; animals and dinosaurs, both in one place was always going to be a good deal.

What a fine visit it was, no major disappointments. There were masses of room for everyone on the day we were there and, looking at the car park and the distances some people had to go back to their cars when we left at closing there were plenty of people there. The enclosures are very good and roomy for the animals which of course are the prime concern, rather that than small pokey things that guarantee you a sighting but send them crackers.

Enjoyed the mono rail, bit on the expensive side (£2.00 for adults and £1.50 for kids) for what it is, but you do get a different view and an idea of the lay out of the zoo. The dinosaurs were OK, a kid they would love them as ours did roaring and moving, well a bit. Prices in the food outlets were not too bad as were the shops selling bits and bobs. Face painter was dear I'm told at a £5.00 per kid, if that is the case budget accordingly, you've been warned.

The aquarium is dated but bearing in mind just up the road is one of the new super doper ones I can’t see there being too much investment in this area for some time, it does what it says on the tin but if you are a fish lover consider somewhere else.

It is the first time in years I've been somewhere when it opened and then left at closing. A great day out for all and for me the best bit was the bat experience. Being in a darkened barn with them flying around you is fantastic, won't be everyone’s cup of tea but a great experience after all in most zoo the closest you get to the animals is behind a screen or stroking a rabbit.

“Great day out.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

The number of cars coming in surprised us, and the muddy puddles on the grass car park made the start a bit messy. We were pleased we'd bought fast-track tickets to walk past the queues.
All the animals you'd expect with some really imaginitive display enclosures.
Found the picnic area a bit disappointing - just 3 old benches which were waterlogged and no tables and chairs. I know they want to push us into the restaurants, but that's a bit measley.
The signage was unimaginitive, and the maps downloadable from the internet are very small.
Nevertheless a good visit.

“Excellent day out whatever your age”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

A visit to Chester Zoo is a must if you are in this part of the UK. Whatever your age if you enjoy animals this is a great day out. The zoo is heavily committed to animal welfare and conservation projects. The bat house, where you can experience bats flying freely around you as you walk through, gives you a great insight into these amazing animals. It takes a minimum of 4 hours to see most of the attractions and it is best to get there early to avoid any crowds, although we did not feel there were too many people present when we visited, a comfortable number.
