Owner description: Chester is the oldest racecourse in the UK and possibly the world, the first recorded race was held on February 9th 1539. We have 15 race days a year and host numerous other events throughout the year. The company is responsible for two racecourses and all catering and conference facilities at Bangor on Dee and Chester, along with an on course hotel - the Holiday Inn Express, restaurants 1539 and The White Horse on site and Commonhall Social in the city of Chester. The company also provide external catering services for third party events.

We thought it would be great to take the kids to this attraction, but there hype definitely outstrips the actual attraction. Don't be fooled by the relatively cheap entrance fee, you will pay for that later. After paying the family + 1 child, we entered the wonderland, it should be renamed as "rip off land" all the rides were extra (and ridiculously expensive) bumper cars £3 per car for 2mins (at most!), hotdogs (label bratwurst) £5 each. So after 5 hotdogs, £25 and dodgems £9 plus entry £16 = £50 absolutely crap.... Also nowhere near as big as it look. Disappointed.

Tricky for seasoned veggies to find anything to suit at this rather swanky place but they came good and more than managed. A tad fussy and over the top but very well prepared and cooked with an alchemical touch we would suggest! The level of service and food(albeit slightly verging on nouvelle cuisine portion wise)was very good indeed and a very pleasant time can be had. Good for a special occasion...slightly pricey but goes with the venue..this is NOT pub nosh!

The racecourse is situated on the northern side of the City, and a big proportion of it can be viewed from the road because it is set in a valley. The course is always immaculate, and is well supported on race days, when unless your actually going there its best avoided due to the throngs of people and traffic. I would describe the racing as generally mid to lower class but its still a great day out especially if the weather is good.

I love racing and have been to many of the country's race courses - including Chester (oldest racecourse in the country) food ok, drink the usual over prices - the worst thing about the course is getting in and out, queues of traffic in, massive queues out (not enjoyable especially if you have lost money) we queued in traffic for 1.5 hours to just get out of the gates, and what slowed it down was a charity collection at the gate, If we ever visit again we will certainly miss the last race to miss the traffic- though I understand there is nowhere else to park as this course is in the middle of the city, we were charged a fortune for the privilege of parking in the course (6 people in the car paying ca £25 each, and extra for parking - my advice, visit Haydock Park instead - free parking easy access in and out7
