Excellent location made up for the dated rooms. Good breakfast although would have appreciated vegetarian choice. Can be noisy through sash windows at front but it didn't keep me awake.

very unproffessional presentation and service-though no fault of the waiting on staff who unfortunately did not have a clue what was on the menu. Cold plates and serving dishes which of course made the food cold very quickly. Not all the meals served at the same time and some of the items on the menu were missing. The dining room was very nice with a good ambience, shame about the rest. Chef and kitchen staff need to up their game i'm afraid.

Having noted some rather negative reviews, we booked with some trepidation but any concerns were soon dispelled and we enjoyed an excellent stay.

We were able to park easily behind the hotel, in their own area. The decor within the building was in good order, as was our room & bathroom. Tea & biscuits provided, we had a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed, then had a good breakfast. (the restaurant might well be good for an evening meal, tho' we chose to tour pubs etc)

Really very satisfactory overall and it's well located for pubs, shopping etc in central Chester - definitely recommended!

Stayed for two nights recently on a short trip to chester.

Positives:
well located
reasonably priced
clean
quiet
free parking ( although a bit of a squeeze)
looks charming from the front elavation

Negatives:
room in desperate need of a makeover
bed uncomfortable and lumpy
bathroom shoddy
tv abysmal
breakfast limited, cereals, full english no fruit or yoghurt & pastrys.

Overall it was adequate for our needs but probally would not use again.
If the management were to crack on and revamp the establishment it could be a cracking hotel!!!

Grotty overpriced hotel, do not stay here. Told the rooms will be updated next year but not told when we booked. Very out of date and not clean at all. Unsafe electrical cables for tv and hairdryer in room 17. Room smelled and was damp. No car park space even though advertised. Only plus side is location.

Having read through some of the comments on this website, I have to say I am somewhat surprised and disappointed by the pettiness of some people! This hotel has such a lovely character, its welcoming, comfortable and charming. The staff went out of their way to assist us, polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Our food was lovely, HOT, well cooked and presented. I cannot find fault and would definately return to stay again...our daughter also stayed in another room, as did her friends, for graduation ceremonys within the city, and all agreed with our findings. Perfectly situated...can't thank them enough for making a stay totally enjoyable!

I visted this hotel with my husband as he had a conference in Chester. On arrival we were made aware that it was undergoing refurbishment, however, I would not recommend this hotel, it was drab, tired and needs a lot of improvements. Although the staff were pleasant and helpful the stay was very disappointing. The cold tap in our sink did not work and despite reporting this it was not fixed during our stay. Breakfast was disappointing and there seemed to be a lack of staff. Although the location is central, that about all the positives it has going for it!
