This hotel is in a prime position for all the shops in Chester it is a lovely hotel and is in need of a little tlc, but where doesnt. The food very good, the staff excellent. and we were made very very welcome and would definatly recommend to any one wanting a cheap get away. Very reasonable priced aswell.

We booked a one night break at this hotel and upon arrival the exterior of the building is lovely and in a great loaction. Check inn was fine however when we arrived in our room I could not believe my eyes, it was dirty beyond belief. The room was directly above the kitchen area and smelt of cooking, there was a ceiling fan that had at least one inch of black thick dust hanging from it, the decor was stained yellow and there were two flys hovering around the toilet basin. We asked to be moved and were allocated a room in the annexe. This was slightly better however the lock on the door did not work correctly, wood was hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom and there was a spiders web with a dead spider attatched from the wall to the bed. I understand that the hotel has recently been purchased, the new owners have there work cut out. The hotel is dated which is fine and shows character however there is no excuse for uncleanliness. We spoke to the receptionist who was most helpful and cancelled our stay....we ended up driving home that same evening. I have stayed in the premier inn before and it was lovely and CLEAN, I will not be returning to the chester Bridge. Employ a cleaner!!

Room Tip: Dont book here if you like a clean hotel

Have just returned from third stay at this hotel since it was taken over. It used to be The Roma. First two visits we were given rooms in the annexe which had lovely comfortable beds, although the shower in room 25 was broken. Room 2 on the ground floor was great. On third visit we were given room 2 in the main hotel but we had to ask for the room to be changed as the bed was rock hard and creaked when I sat on it. Annexe rooms seem to be much better. They were very good about moving us and gave us a comfortable room in the annexe again. Breakfasts are good, freshly cooked and plentiful. It is very good value for money at the £42 we paid for a double room with breakfast, particularly with the free parking, but prices will no doubt go up when it is refurbished. Staff, especially the manager , are friendly and most helpful. Can't beat it for location and value at the moment.

Clearly very dated in design, especially in the Annexe building where we stayed, but I understand this is being addressed and I look forward to staying again to see the improvements when complete.

The two main reasons to stay at this hotel are:

1) The superb location inside the walls
2) The free parking, which is unheard of in Chester

As others have mentioned, we also found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts to be good.

All in all a very enjoyable stay which I would recommend to others, provided you understand and accept the rather dated design currently!

Great location within the city walls and just a minutes walk from the river. This hotel has been taken over by new owners recently who are planning to renovate it. At the moment it is a very tired looking hotel - broken furniture, shabby decoration, dated bar area. The breakfast room was pleasant with the breakfast was freshly cooked and of good portions.

The staff were very friendly although a tad inattentive especially at the bar where my partner waited for sometime to be served and then gave up! Our room was adequate but shabby and the bathroom was very poor. The shower water was either freezing or scorching nothing inbetween and the shower door was covered in black mold with an overall unpleasant smell. In view of the note left in the room apologising for the shabbiness and saying they had plans to improve the hotel we would have thought they would have paid special attention to cleanliness. The carpet had white specks over it indicating it hadn't been hoovered between guests.

Due to its location we would stay here again but would hope the level of cleanliness would have improved. £85 for a Saturday night was not value for money!
