A small contained town within the four gates of the city. A roman city with remains from our ancestors. Lots of character and tourists from around the world visiting this location. Very interesting, 'The Rows' are unique to this city, enjoy the news from the local town crier at midday.Stroll along the riverside or the roman/medieval walls and admire scenic views. Recommendable for a weekend break, if you go by car use the 'Park and Ride' facilities as parking is at a premium price, buses run every 15 mins for using this service. There is a free bus from the station if you arrive by train right into the town centre.

Having visited Chester, to see relations, for many years we thought it was about time we did a walking tour to find out a bit more about it's hidden gems. We were not dissappointed and it was £5 (OAP rate) well spent. We met at the Tourist Information Office for our morning tour, the guide was extremely knowledgeable about Chester pointing out out various things we had walked passed many times before without spotting them and a lot about the history of the city right back to pre-Roman times. There were only six in our group which allowed us access, with permission, several old shops and The Boot Inn, to see unusually archetecture and other things of interest. The hour and a half just flew by and we left it feeling we knew Chester a great deal better than we had on our other visits, well worth doing.

Went with friends, similar age to ourselves. It was a lovely day, glorious sunshine when we went, so I'm sure this added to the nice time we had. The boat trip was approximatley 30/40 mins, informative and the views were beautiful, we could buy a drink on board and staff were very pleasent and well mannered. We then hopped on the bus, just a short walk away form the boat. Again, we had a lovely trip and were able to hop on and off wherever we liked. The bus trip was also very informative about Chester and the different sights, overall, a really lovely day and Chester is such a pleasent town to walk around, with plenty of nice places to eat. I felt that we could have taken our 9 yr old had she been with us that day and she would have enjoyed it too!

Been on a few of these Hop on Hop off buses before but was pleasantly surprised with this one in Chester. Bus driver was more than helpful, he was also extremely friendly. The commentary was informative and combined with a little humour and I learnt a lot about Chester in the bus trip. Definitely value for money.

We have used this company's bus tours wherever we have travelled around the world; several cities in Britain and as far away as Cadiz and Sydney, and to be fair, we have never had a bad tour yet. The buses are always clean, the staff always smart and tidy, and the guides are excellent. There is never a rush to get folks on and off the bus, all the staff have been helpful and have time for you.

The local knowledge as far as we know is supplied by local people, and is delivered with humour, accuracy and with a passion that contains a pride in their work and the area they represent. This City's bus tour was no exception. The driver was safe, keeping up with traffic, yet giving you enough time to see what was being pointed out and keeping in time with the commentary - both sides working as a team.

Our femal commentator was very humerous, yet possessed a deep knowledge of her City. Yes doing this day in day out you would hope that she had, yet her enthusiasm and delivery were as fresh as if it was her first day at work, and she must have done this thousands of times!

I guess like many folks, we do the full tour, then choose when and where to get off for the places we would like to look at in more detail, and the 24 hour ticket is perfect for this. We feel the prices offer great value for money, but it is up to you to use it.

On the downside we did also use the City Riverboat Cruise, and sadly thought it left a lot to be desired. The vessel was dirty, had a leak from the top deck onto the lower one which the girl attendant said she would get someone to have a look at and stop the dripping water, but never did. It continued for the duration of the trip. The toilet door which faced the seated area would not shut properly, and was left swinging about everytime it was no longer in use. Though not a direct fault of the operators, not everyone left the toilet in a clean manner. This was not a new fault that had 'only just occured'. On a final note the recorded commentary was very bland, being something we thought could have been a lot better.

Overall we find the bus tour to be excellent, but as they work in conjunction with the river cruise, that has effected my score. What could have been excellent all-round now has a 'very good'. To drop one score lower would not have been a fair reflection to the bus tour.

We will use the bus tours again when we visit our next city, but will refrain from the boats!
