I live in Chester and have tried all other Indians in the city, none come anywhere close to city spice. The staff are fantastically friendly but leave you alone and do not push drinks on you like many other restaurants. The food is excellent, we keep trying new dishes and we continue to be amazed by the flavour and quality of every dish. I also travel plenty with work and am yet to find anywhere else which is of this quality. The sashlik is my favourite and there is more food than any normal person could possibly consume. The prices are great, especially on a Sunday when they have their buffet (which isn't actually a buffet, you get to choose everything you have and is brilliant as everything is cooked fresh).

We saw this over the road from our hotel and after looking at both menus opted for the City Spice (plus we checked reviews). We were greeted by friendly staff who were very polite and not pushy.
We started with the usual poppadoms and were greeted with something we had never tasted before. It was Mango and Chilli Chutney and it was gorgeous, wish our local would get the recipe.
The starters arrived after the waiter asked if we were ready for them (alien where I live you normally get them dumped in front of you) and they tasted superb
The main meal arrived again after the waiter asked if we were ready for them (if more restaurants did this they may get return custom). My Chicken Tikka Balti was perfect and a taste sensation, but now for the only negative. My wife had Chicken Tikka Masala and this had a slightly overpowering nutty taste which we have never had before. It was cooked perfectly and my wife ate as much as she could.
The owner and his staff were such perfectly mannered hosts that if we ever get to Chester again we will certainly use it again (wife will have to have a different main )

We first ate at City Spice last November when a group of us visited Chester to go Christmas Shopping. We stayed at the lovely Belgrave Hotel and City Spice is very close by and that's what made us choose it. We enjoyed it so much that when 26 of us returned to Chester last weekend for a hen weekend, we booked a room to ourselves at City Spice. Once again the service was first class, the food was lovely (excellent choice) and the prices very competative. I would recommend this restaurant without reservation. It's not the poshest in town, but it must be one of the friendliest!
