“Very Dissapointed”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

I have just returned from a trip to Chester with my husband, this was meant to be a special tip as we were without our son on a very rare night out. We decided to push the boat out and were torn between the Crowne Plaza and this one, as we have stayed here before years ago we chose this one - mistake!
we paid £140 bed and breakfast and were put in room 208 which was like a box room you could hardly move around the bed it was so small and the the view out of the window was of the back of the hotel and some industrial units.
there was 1 bottle of water in the room and the tea and coffee facilities were minimal. The room was stiflingly hot and the floor boards were extremely creaky, someone in the upstairs room had a shower at 7 am and they might as well have been in the same room it sounded like the water was coming down into my room. The room service menu consisted of puddings and wine and was repeated 8 times so this had obviously not been checked. The info said spare pillows were in the wardrobe and there was none!
the decor was nice but we felt like we had been shoved in a box room at the back of the hotel
We went for breakfast the next day which was included in our booking however it would have been priced at a whopping £17.50!! it was waitress service except for cereal and continental items. She took my order which was the 'signature' breakfast, bacon, sausage, egg, mushroom, black pudding and tomato, it was a small breakfast - to say the least with only a SLICE of mushroom!!
THIS HOTEL IS SERIOUSLY OVERPRICED AND A HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!!

Caitlin, the events coordinator has been in constant contact with us while we have been trying gather information, for ideas for what we would like for our wedding.
When we arrived to the hotel ,Caitlin met us she was so nice, she went threw everything with us and we felt totally satisfied in what we want. The hotel is ideal for a smaller wedding. The location is brilliant Chester is a fabulous place. I am confident the team at the New blossoms Hotel will make our wedding something to remember. We also dined there, we wanted to see what the food tasted like before we booked our wedding, the meals we had were delicious. The rooms Caitlin showed us were traditional, clean and calming. We have looked at many venues. Some of the persons who we have dealt with or spoken to on the phone have been terrible, they haven't got back in touch with us with info regarding our wedding, which is bad news and has put us off booking, if they are like this now what will they be like further down the line. Well we have decided to book our wedding at the New Blossoms hotel first impressions are important they have ticked all the box's for us , really can't wait for 2014 I'm sure Caitlin and her team will do us proud .

This is truly within Chester's historic heart and makes for a good base to enjoy the city. The hotel itself has some very comfortable features and my room was very adequate and well equipped. From an iron and ironing board to the supply of teas and coffees with kettle and bottled water - I didn't want for more for my short stay. The room allocated was on the top floor - accessed by a very small lift or the impressive staircase. This is a hotel which stands out from the modern mid-price offer. Sure, it's jaded in places. But it reminded me of how things used to be before the accountants imposed their red-lines and standardised the outcomes for hotel guests. If in Chester again, I know where I'd prefer to stay.

Room Tip: My top floor room was very quiet, even though the hotel is truly at the heart of the city

Not my first visit to this hotel, stayed in December 2012. Its location is perfect when staying in Chester. The receptionist Kamila is lovely. She greets you with a warm smile and is very informative making sure we knew where everything was ect. Shes is a real assest to the hotel. We had a package that included Champagne Afternoon Tea and were really bitterly disappointed with in. We missed lunch presumming that it included a selction on sandwiches and scones. We waited over 20 mins for 2 cream scones, the gentleman on the bar was nice but the service was terrible, we were both really disappoined with the Chamapgne Afternoon Tea. We had room 206 which was at the back of the hotel so nice and quiet, it was very clean, the only slight downside was the tiny bathroom but not really a problem. We both slept well in the very comfy bed. Breakfast was so dissapointing, in fact if I hadnt been to this hotel before and seen better service it might of put me off returning. We waited over 20 mins for the tea and coffee, had to ask to order our cooked breakfast and when we asked for toast with the cooked breakfast we had to ask twice, yet there were ample staff. I having given my review 4 stars but in all honesty it probably doesnt deserve it. The Afternoon Tea and Brekfast service was so poor I think my loyalty to the hotel has influenced my high score. Will I stay there again - not so sure anymore

Room Tip: Rooms at back have no view but are much quieter

Having stopped in the Macdonalds Old England hotel in the lakes and enjoyed the comfort and luxury we decided to book in the New Blossom for our wedding anniversary. First impressions were soon dashed as we made our way to our room as the level of cleanliness and decoration left a lot to be desired, tired and marked walls in the corridors leading to our room (230) Loose floorboards under the carpet outside the room which moved up and down when you walked on them, obviously the boards were not screwed down.. To get to our room we had to pass room 224 which is at the bottom of a set of stairs, the view of the door top is of dust and dirt obviously accumulated over a long period of time. The hotel is marketed as middle class, the management of this hotel need to open their eyes, visit the Old England to appreciate what really should be presented. This hotel needs some intensive care.On a good point the hotel staff were very good and couldn't help enough. However we will not be stopping in this hotel again. Whilst comfort takes priority over the cost this hotel was not worth the money paid, very disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are a lot quieter, a nightclub is located next to the front entrance

We stayed on 13/02 for one night. We booked it as a short getaway for valentines through Expedia.

On arrival, the receptionists seemed busy, but were friendly, and informative. We were given the key for room 124 and away we went!

It seemed like we were walking around for ages trying to get there, but all the staff that were working were very helpful and directed us in the right direction.

I let my girlfriend go in first, as I had arranged rose petals on the bed and champagne in the room as a surprise.

The petals were arranged in a heart, and the champagne was in a bucket of ice. Needless to say, she was made up, as was I, as it was a last minute plan.

The room was big, clean, modern, and had a view of the high street (the Disney store). The en suite was immaculate.

Despite being above the high street, the room was quiet, and we could not hear anything from outside or any other guests.

The only down side was that the room was very warm, and we had to turn the radiator off, and slept with no blankets. A fan was provided though.

We will definitely be staying again. We have recommended MacDonald new blossoms to all our friends and family.

Booked one night away to attend a function in Chester. As we are fairly local the car parking didn't bother us as we parked in the Grosvenor shopping car park at £10 for 24 hours which I thought was reasonable. Bit slow on the check in. Room a decent size and comfy. For visitors from further afield you are right in the middle of the shopping area so this hotel is great to shop and then drop off and go out again. Didn't eat here or have a drink. The hotel bar did not appear to open late so perhaps have a nightcap somewhere else.
