Location can't fault, service great. Breakfast was excellent. Only problem room tiny as was the bed!! Wish we had asked for better room but we arrived late so just got changed and went out. Mentioned it to reception when we checked out, they said would have moved us no problem. very very friendly will be back next visit to Chester

We stayed New Year's Eve, arrived at 1pm and our room was ready, we were given a free upgrade from double too an executive suite, very nice surprise. The young chap on reception was efficient, friendly and very helpful. Our room was very good, first floor, and unlike the other reviews we've read, we didn't have a problem with the disco music because we didn't hear it at all. We stayed on bed and breakfast basis, our last drink on New Year's Eve was in the hotel bar, it was very pleasant , not a lot of choice for my personal taste, but prices were on par with the local bars . I agree the hotel did seem to bypass the new years celebrations but the town itself was buzzing with choice. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, service was good friendly and quick.
All in all I would recommend this hotel too anyone, it is a working progress , being painted and decorated, but as with all hotels it has wear and tear visible. But the staff rectify problems ASAP

Arrived to very nice room on 2nd floor. Complimentary water not sealed? No blind on bathroom which was facing Main Street. We were moved to room 107. If you expect to sleep before 6am in this room think again as it above a nightclub. The noise was horrendous and not what I wanted for a £135 per night room. The radiators in the room on full so sweltering to add to misery. Decor fine, expected from listed building. Bathroom funny shape so couldn't bend down over basin as too close to shower screen so brushed teeth from height. Hotel decided not to join in New Year's Eve, nothing going on at all. Maybe would have been okay if someone had properly checked original room and made sure there was a blind on window as you would expect from 4 star. Would I return, probably not unless I inspected room first.

Room Tip: Inspect room first and make sure high as possible not on front over nightclub

Our second floor room looked nice until we noticed the bathroom had no blind and faced the main Street. We rang reception and were moved to the first floor and as we discovered later, above a nightclub! For a 4 star hotel this is a poor show. We paid £135 for be and breakfast and we won be staying for breakfast. The noise is just too much. We came for News years eve as a treat and is has turned into a farce. We understand it is new year but we wanted to celebrate our own way and not have to listen to the the thump thump thump like we were in Magaluf. If you want a peaceful break this is not the place to come. The hotel is not what you would expect from a 4 star in fact I have stayed in better Premier Inns. I am annoyed to have wasted so much money on such a poor hotel. Apart from the thumping noise It appears this hotel has bypassed New Year's Eve. We even had to go and find a barman to sell us a bottle of wine.

W stayed two nights - christmas eve and christmas day on a package which includes dinner bed and breakfast both nights and a buffet christmas night.

Room - we stayed in the Westcott Suite. Four poster bed, with flat screen tv and desk in the room. The room included a separate living area with a small two seater and a chair, flat screen tv and a coffee table. The rooms are a little shabby with minor scuffs and marks here and there but the quaint/old fashion feel to the room added to the christmas atmosphere. The browns, oranges and scarlets came together to give the room a cosy/homely feel. Bathroom very spacious and shower very good. Wardrobe/Iron and Board/ Tea and Coffee making facilities with loads of selection are some of the facilities in the room. The only negative was the heat and the view from the window overlooking the inner part of the hotel.

Food - we didn't have to put our hand in our pocket while we there as everything was included in the price but we had a look at the menu and food and drink is quite pricey. Saying that, the quality of the food is outstanding. We couldn't complain about a single thing we ate and that was across three days, breakfast lunch and dinner. Definitely worth every penny and more.

Staff - couldn't have been more helpful. We had a couple of minor issues that were never too much trouble for the staff to sort out. They were very polite and well trained and very experienced in customer service. A few could not speak English but they would quickly have somebody else see to you.

Hotel in general - in a great location right in the centre of chester near all the shops and restaurants and bars. A five minute walk to the river/cathedral/train station. The hotel is a little shabby but in a cool way in my opinion. Very quaint.

Wifi cost us £10 which i thought was a bit steep and car park cost £20 for 48 hours. Car park is literally around the corner so about 5 minute walk.

All in all, we had an amazingly relaxed christmas at the hotel and are very thankful to all the hardworking staff who contributed towards our wonderful experience.

Oh yeah, don't take no notice of many of the negative reviews on here. Some people are way too picky. The hotel is great.

Room Tip: The Westcott Suite for a longer stay as it includes a separate living space to chill out in.

Situated in the heart of Chester. Best for shops, food, pubs.

Room was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Only downside was there was no parking and you had to park in the multi-story car park down the road and when you had bags of shopping was a bit of a haul.

Room Tip: Room 102 was large size and very comfortable.

So convenient for Chester city centre.Very well placed and comfortable hotel-parking not so convenient and very pricey!!
Rooms large with excellent facilities
Breakfast time-not well organised-having to sit in bar area to wait for tables and then when finally seated-staff,running around, complaining to each other loudly-very unorganized and very unprofessional!

It would also have good been a good idea to warn residents about the fire alarm practice Friday mornings!
