“Excellent food and fantastic service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2009

I would definately stay again. The room wasnt fantastic but the evening meal and breakfast made up for that.
The evening meal was wonderful and the service great.
The room was rather small but clean.

The Westminster is dirty, cramped, dated and the staff are beyond rude! Our room, and the 7 others that our family occupied, were extremely small, stuffy and dirty. The decor is flaking and the ceilings a dirty yellow rather than white. The bathrooms in the room are a throw-back to the 60's with dirty, cracked tiles, grime around the taps and cheap, peeling flooring. When the bath soap says, 'Smart Price' on it, this is a sign to worry!

The lady on reception made us wait for over 5 minutes whilst she finished what was clearly a personal call on her mobile, offerred no apology and, as there was 16 of us, suggested we could have arrived at seperate times to 'make life easier.' As our party were all driving, the receptionist also said, 'I suppose you have taken all the parking spaces aswell.' I would sack this lady today as she clearly has no basic manners!

Carpets in corridors are sticky, doors slam and some rooms don't even have a window!

This hotel is a dirty stain on the Best Western brand and I would never ever return. If I could remember the ladies name on reception, I would say it but my memory has let me down!

We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely recommend the Westminster. The location is convenient for the town and the railway station. There is a shuttle bus from the station (which is about 300 yards away) to the town and it's free.
The food is very good - we went with a large party so we had a three course menu with a choice of 3 items per course for dinner. The breakfast is as good a buffet as you will get anywhere and we had Bucks Fizz on Sunday morning!
The staff are very friendly and helpful and always seemed cheerful.
The bar is not expensive but if I'm truthfull the decor is a bit eclectic but not unpleasant.
The rooms are very nice, if a little dark, and spotlessly clean
All in all a smashing little hotel - we will be going back in a couple of weeks.

The location of the hotel is fine, close to the station and fairly quiet.
The hotel generally is in need of an upgrade, the decor is old-fashioned and a bit tatty.
The rooms are small and poorly lit, but very clean.
Breakfast was nothing special,I did find it off-putting that there was one large pot of marmalade instead of individual portions.

Hotel is ideally situated but rather in need of update. Asked for separate shower and given room with shower over bath; room was changed but shower very small and basin in bedroom! Bar staff unhelpful when ordering sandwiches (which were overpriced). The hotel was saved by an excellent breakfast with very attentive and helpful staff. Overall not up to usual Best Western UK hotels.

No internet or Wifi. Telephone broken, toilet broken, no hot water.

Breakfast was fairly good and hotel is very close to train station. Breakfast staff was friendly, efficient and attentive.

Can not say the same thing about staff who answer the telephone or front desk people.

I would not stay here again.

I had booked this trip for me and my husband for our first wedding anniversary, and when i read all the reviews on here i really wasn't looking forward to this trip. But when we got there it was brilliant!!!! There had been a mix up with our reservation which was best westerns fault but Tom the receptionist sorted this out for us and the manager gave us free b'fast because of this mix up. When we got up to the room that we had been upgraded to it was beautiful and there was a little cake and card from the manager had left for us. Later that night we ate in the restaurant, it was beautiful, they had gave us a comp bottle of champagne and had put heart confetti on the table. And the food was fantastic. This is a lovely 3* hotel but the staff are deftly 5*! We will be going again!
