Chose as few hotels/guesthouses have free and/or onsite parking. Booked groundfloor room as staying with disabled mother. Room was spacious and very clean and pretty. Large bathroom but quite a low loo and no grab rail for people with disabilities. Also shower over bath and not a walk in shower - also no grab rails on bath. Lovely sitting areas around hotel where you can be quiet and read etc. Nice bar area but TV in bar area and too noisy to listen to the TV - better if it was in one of the other sitting areas. Breakfast was good - excellent service. Surprised no plain yoghurt served with prunes - tried fruit yoghurt but not the same. Check out in the morning was very slow - better to check out the night before. Overall service was very good and guests made to feel very welcome. Would recommend subject to accessibility of bath/shower.

Room Tip: Ground floor nice and quiet and roomy

Thank you for your comments regarding our hotel and bringing to our attention some adjustments that could be made for a more improved stay. We appreciate your feedback and have undertaken some ground floor alterations. I was sorry to hear you did not see our Natural Yoghurt at our breakfast table, and apologise for this inconvenience. Thank you for your mention of our Free Parking which we agree is an asset when considering accommodation in a City. We hope to welcome you and your mother back to The Brookside Hotel in the not too distant future.

When we arrived for our 4 night stay at this hotel we certainly got a surprise - our room was down a steep flight of stairs and was a barely-converted cellar - it was dark, damp and smelled of the mould which adorned the bottom of the curtains. There was no way we were going to stay there, so we asked for another room. We were then given the option of another room which was as shown in the online adverts and was in fact very comfortable with a modern bathroom.
We are still amazed that the management would try to put anyone in that cellar room, let alone overseas tourists staying for 4 nights!
The rest of the hotel was very pleasant, it had a small bar and lounge area, a restaurant, its own parking area and was just a short bus ride into the city centre. The staff seemed very helpful but somewhat inefficent, there always seemed to be little problems arising - to be honest we weren't sure if we had upset someone and some of the mix-ups were deliberate - we began to feel we had "troublemaker" signs on our backs. Whilst this amused us, it is probably not good business practice to leave your guest with that impression. Would we go back there? I think not!

Room Tip: Avoid the cellar room (no 28 I think). Room 4 on the ground floor was very comfortable.

Although our two stays were short, we thoroughly recommend this hotel for the friendliness of the staff, help with booking taxis and restaurant tables, the cleanliness of the rooms and the delicious choices at breakfast: especially for me, honey was provided on request with my croissant! If we go to Chester again, we will certainly stay there again.

I booked this hotel for a reunion. The hotel has a very welcoming feeling and the staff were excellent. It was a perfect venue for what we wanted. Breakfast was lovely and again staff were really good. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Chester centre but it's an easy walk although there was public transport if needed. If I had a criticism it would be the evening meal. It was OK but the same menu on both evenings. The bedrooms were on the small size but adequate and beautifully decorated as was the whole hotel. Would I stay again-definitely, the ambience makes it a really friendly hotel. Very good value for the money.

Room Tip: One of our party said they had a room at the front of the hotel and there were late night revellers...

Found this hotel on Booking.com. Quite a little gem. We booked a small double, had room 11.
Ok, so the room was a bit small, but the bed was a standard double, the decor was very good and it was clean and very well presented. It was only a bed for a couple of nights and we weren't planning to dance around the room so why would we want a bigger room. The en-suite was adequate although the shower lacked a little pressure.
Breakfast was excellent. Staff are all very helpful. Plenty of room to park on the main road if no room in the car park and you can't find the entrance to the overflow car park.
Only a 10 minute walk down to the city centre.
We will be booking again the next time we visit Chester.

We stayed here as we were at Chester races in September & thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The hotel felt really cosy with a lovely bar area & sofas to chill out with a drink or 2! Perfectly located for either a short walk into Chester or a couple of pounds in a taxi, I think it was £3 for a taxi to the racecourse (which the hotel organised for us).
The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the breakfast (after reading so many people raving about it on here), it was just ok we thought & not worthy of the glowing reports. Anyhow, I would 100% recommend staying here & I'm sure we'll be back next time we visit the races!

This is a genuine English hotel, not a pub. It is in a very nice building which was formerly 3 premises that have combined over the last few decades.

Check in by Anna was efficient. Room was a little cramped but nicely presented. Bathroom was good as was tea & coffee making facilities. Beds were fine, TV worked well. We paid 104 GBP for a 3 person room.

The breakfast service was very nice (posh even)! There was a buffet of cereals and fruit and hot food was made to order from a very extensive menu. I thought the breakfast experience was very 'English' and nice.

This place is at east 15 minute walk to the centre of the old part of town. If I go the Chester again, I will choose a pub in the centre of town (for more convenient dining, shopping and sight seeing).
