great place to eat ,quirky interior ,nice and clean ,down a beautiful side street close to the cathedral.Reasonably priced drink,Good selection of dishes. Also had a chefs specials menu .
The food was good the staff were pleasant.Busy place good ambiance. You can just sit and have a drink by the bar if you dont want to eat.
Can also have coffee / snacks. There is also outside seating and a smoking area if you are a smoker.
A lovely place to go chill out.

My partner and I came here after a family member recommended it for food. It was quiet when we walked in and two members of staff smiled and welcomed us and told us to take a seat wherever we wanted. We took about 10 minutes to decide on what to eat as the food sounded fab. Then another 10 minutes went by without a member of staff coming to take our order. We waited a little more. After a few more minutes my partner went up to attract someone's attention, when we were told they'd forgotten about us and swiftly came over to take our order. We had ordered, when 5 minutes later the waitress came back to say my main meal had run out and wasn't available.
It sounds petty but I was slightly disappointed as I'd had to wait a while to be served even though it was quiet, but the food was beautiful and the decoration was lovely. Would recommend to anyone, as I hope the staff are usually swift compared to when we visited.

During our stay in Chester for a few days, attending graduation and staying at The Grosvenor Hotel, this restaurant looked a good choice as it is nearby, short walking distance for an evening meal, and on the outside looked polished and decent. BUT - impressions just DO NOT always bear out, sadly. The table booked for 7:00, we were on time, and the experience started with the panicked staff member who couldn't find our booking (oh no, what have we let ourselves in for here) but eventually found 'something' and POINTED at our table "yeah, it's over there look, next to the window". Take us over? Welcome us? Make sure we are comfortable? FORGET IT.

The whole evening simply continued in this vein, chaotic, shambles. We finally got our meals at 8:40, on cold plates, with a feeble apology from our waitress. Was the food special and worth the wait? Nope. Poor, average and frankly bland. Our entire evening was ruined, a special family meal made uncomfortable and tiring + stressed. Never again. I can only advise firmly to avoid this venue, it is a shambling bar masquerading as a restaurant. And doing a very bad job at it.

This is a very attractive pub/restaurant with very good, well trained staff. The whole place feels fresh and clean. The toilets are immaculate.
We ordered a "Nibble" each as starters. Although the place was very busy our "Nibbles" arrived very quickly and were excellent. A huge portion of Whitebait with Squid and an equally large portion of Maple Glazed Chipolatas. Piping hot and served on attractive wooden platters the two "Nibbles" could not be faulted.
The main course, however, was very disappointing. The "Pie of the Day" was Beef and Mushroom. It arrived on a very cold plate and the Beef element had some VERY tough pieces in it. There were no mushrooms at all and the pastry was soggy and almost raw. The chips were frozen, not fresh, and the vegetables were al dente (nearly raw) cold carrots and broccoli.
The other dish we ordered was also served on a very cold plate but was screaming hot. It was a very bland mushroom risotto. Totally tasteless.
All in all a very disappointing experience after such a good start.
