“What a waste of money”

Dewa Roman Experience
Ranked #30 of 97 things to do in Chester
Attraction details
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Took my 9 year old to find out something about Roman Chester. The exhibits were thin on the ground as was the general content of the attraction. This place looked like it had been put together as a 6th form project in the 1970s. At £5.50 for adults and £3.75 for kids it wasn't worth the money, you'd be better off walking round the walls and investing in a guide book in order to find out more about Roman Chester. This place should hang it's head in shame - in this day and age much more is expected in terms of display, content and interaction! We were told that it would take us 45 minutes to get round - could have easily done it in 10! Don't go would be my advise.

This attraction was very dark and had very steep steps to descend and ascend. If you don't like archeology, don't visit Dewa.

Visited with two children (8 and 5) on a wet Saturday afternoon in March - both enthralled by the sights, sounds, smells and the hands on area (particularly the model working catapult). Got to end and they insisted on going back and doing it again. Youngest (five) was convinced she had gone back in time and hasn't stopped talking about it. Well worth a visit - atmospheric, unique, recommended and eye-opening. Friendly staff very willing to talk about the history of the city.

On Saturday 09/03/13 I visited this attraction with my two grandsons. It is expensive for what it is. Dark and cold. The male toilet was dirty so much so my youngest grandson refused to use it. the hands on section is good for kids. The different aspects of the digs is fascinating illustrating the diverse people who lived in Chester. It is a little scary for small children. Needs a bit of life injecting into the museum.
