“Very Friendly, Comforable Hotel with Lively Bar in Fantastic Location.”
Reviewed November 12, 2010

As everyone will say, slightly hard to find on 1st visit but you will want to go back!
It just took a phone call to pin point the location, which is one of it's Ace cards. James from the hotel joined us in the car to direct us to the parking area which was a short drive and shorter walk back, he couldn't have been more courtious and helpful, once back to the hotel he booked us in, showed us where everthing was, took us to our room and made sure we were happy. This was the standard set. We dined at the hotel restaurant that evening having the two course meal with 1/2 carafe of wine included each! Wonderful meal, the beef bourguignon melted in the mouth.
The location is a courtyard to the rear of St. Peters church (oldest in Chester) which puts it behind the picturesque shops in the centre, yet our wednesday morning was very peaceful and quiet, not so Tuesday evening which was comedy night, which we went to,(not for the easily offended but we laughed alot) this was held in the room below our bedroom with music til 2am yet we didnt find it too intrusive.
All this right in the middle of the sights of Chester.
The room was freshly modernised, I think the smallest of the five but with the long 'hallway' to the bedroom area and large bathroom with seperate full body shower it felt like a suite, very comfortable.
The building is full of character in keeping with its suroundings so you feel at the heart of Chester. This hotel suited us perfectly.

Booked a single night stay at this hotel on strengths of some reviews seen here along with photos on the web site, and I can happily confirm that this is one of the best hotels my wife and myself have ever stayed in. If you want the sterility of the big chain hotels ,this is not for you. If you want character, style and informality, attention to detail and a brilliant central location then this is a perfect choice.

The staff are so friendly and engaging and really cannot do enough for you. An example of this is that We got completely lost trying to locate the Hotel,I rang the hotel and spoke to a really great guy called Dean who said we were very close, told us to sit tight and he will meet us and hop in the car, which he did! Now that's personal service at its best. He was great and would not even let me buy him a drink at the bar later saying its part of the service, thanks Dean you were a real help !

We dined at the small in hotel restaurant on the evening and had a stunning meal in both value and quality, the menu is amazing and ranks as one of the best meals I have ever had, my wife echoed my views. The breakfast was equally amazing , a high quality Full English with the most Delicious Pork and black pudding sausages, heaven !

Fridays and Saturdays are Disco nights and the atmosphere is great with a mix of ages making a very good night there, its loud its buzzing so if you want quiet go mid week , but we loved it ! Try the japanese Lager Kirin , yummie

We stayed in the Lord Byron Suite, it had the best Hotel bathroom Ive ever seen and the most comfy bed !! A High standard of finish and cleanliness too, so spot on again.

We spoke to the owner whilst having breakfast she was so engaging and so proud of her hotel which was really nice to see, Rebbecca we loved your Carry On Cleo wallpaper and the Cow in the entrance. Hope your first year aniversary of opening is a big party for you ! We will be back soon !

Really enjoyed our night at The Commercial Hotel. We stayed in the Byron Suite which was very luxurious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The staff were very friendly & the service was excellent. We had our evening meal in the hotel as the menu looked so good and we were not disappointed as the food was excellent. The location is great - right in the city centre. Really cannot fault this hotel!

The Commercial is tucked in right behind Northgate main street shops. Its a busy bar and restaurant with lots going on every week. We stayed on comedy night, we were given free entry when asked nicely. We also got free wireless access when asked.
The staff were very helpful and drove with us to their allocated car park, a street or two away, and offered to carry bags.
My husband and I went with our 2 year old and my parents. This would have been perfect for us a couple a few years ago, but was a little too noisy late at night for the family. Though our daughter slept soundly through it, we didn't! But as long as you expect this its great! The rooms were stylish and clean, with bottled water, tea, coffee, biscuits, tissues, cotton buds and fresh towels. There was a lack of a main room light, which made it a little dark with just the bedside lamps but not a real problem. I would say a very nice place to stay at a very good rate if you want to be in the thick of it! We will return, maybe on our own if we get opportunity for a party weekend!

My room was above the pub and DJ set which closes at 2am. The hotel made me aware of this in advance which accounted for a reduced price.

Great hotel room, ideal for those returning from a night out, set in a quaint location right in the heart of Chester city, convenient to bars restaurants and Chester Racecourse.

Friendly and easy going staff.

Found this hotel in a leaflet I had picked up at the Tourist Info Centre. We weren't expecting much for a city centre hotel at the price quoted. It was the same price as the Travelodge but in a totally different league! On arrival we were shown to our room which was lovely - everything appeared brand new. Huge bed with lovely bedlinen, flat screen TV, and the bathroom - well where do I start - huge bath, double sinks, and the shower was spaceage!! Everything was spotlessly clean. We didn't eat in the hotel which had 3 bars/restaurants but instead spent the evening around Chester (although the menu looked lovely!). We had a good sleep although there was a lot of noise coming from the bar downstairs (didn't bother us but might bother light sleepers- it stopped around midnight!) Breakfast was slow in coming but well worth the wait - good quality and delicious! The whole time we were there the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly! Would thoroughly reccommend to anyone wanting to spend a few nights in Chester. Our only real gripe is that we couldn't stay longer!!

Ideal location. Friendly, helpful staff. Great decor, mixing old and new with style. Lovely room, comfy bed/pillows and a bright, modern en suite. Very clean, very classy. Good food too: I had a very tasty, large bowl of pasta with langoustines for under a tenner which I thought was excellent value. I plan to go back.
